His face don't looked burned? Maybe Shaw will hit the bottom to open the door for baby help?

The big serpent thing makes me think of old '50s - 60's style sci-fi flick monsters. Still pretty cool design.

Is it just me, or is there a gigantic hole in the Engineer's chest?

Does anyone remeber the Alien figures of the mid 90s, Squiddy boy could be a dead ringer for the queen Facehugger toy!

Definitely looks like it's trapped in the air lock. What id this is a really massive FaceHugger? Like... huge.

Who knows? Maybe the Sjs are symbiotic organisms who have a very close, nasty little friend that comes and goes via a big, gaping hole in their chest. That would defnitely be creepy.

@Necronomicon IV, I see that too. It's possible! But how would he still be fighting if his chest was ripped open? Good spot!

that thing has the color, and the knobby legs of a facehugger. giant face hugger lays little face hugger eggs...and we all go home a little embarassed for having been on this site in the first place.

Yeah... I see the hole. Maybe his hole is related to myth of Prometheus? The eagle would peck at his torso and take his intestines (or whatever) and he would heal for the cycle to be continued daily for all eternity... Same deal for this appointed SJ?

Ok, I'm kind of a noob here, so forgive me. But... 1) From what I've read so far, I'm guessing that the huge, tentacled creature in this shot is the full-grown version of what is removed from one of the human crew earlier in the film, while they're lying down in that glass tube medical chamber thingy? Is this accurate? If not, what exactly is the huge tentacled creature? 2) I get the fact that the tentacled creature is grabbing the space jockey/engineer and about to drag him away. What I don't understand is this: If the huge tentacled creature is supposedly saving the girl in this shot from the engineer, why is the creature also grabbing the girl? Doesn't seem like she's being helped, and doesn't seem like she's going to be able to get away. What's your take on this? Thanks in advance for your input.

I've added the new HD still image from the gallery which I just uploaded to your post The Xeno, to give another look. @adamrparr, Welcome! And I think the creature is on no one's side. I think it wants to kill both Shaw and the Engineer. Just the Engineer is in it's way first.
I think the creature is on no one's side. I think it wants to kill both Shaw and the Engineer. Just the Engineer is in it's way first. - BugHunter
Agreed. It doesn't seem as though it's coming to anyone's rescue based upon what I'm seeing in that shot. And again, is the tentacled creature taken out of that human's chest earlier in the film in that glass tube surgical chamber? Thx for the welcome!

That hole is probably where the elephant trunk looking thing connects to when the Sj is in the pilot suit-seat. How could he fight it if he was hurt with a wound that big? Hmm, now that I look at this image. That trunk part does not connect fully down. Well maybe not yet. That big alien monster looks to be a homage to old 50' and 60's Sci-Fi films. Still very cool.

The more I see of Prometheus the more I'm convinced that Ridley is using all of the unseen or unused elements from the original Alien, perfect example this new creature is the STARBEAST that was envisioned before or at lest some of it's components are from the original script by the late O'Bannon. This movie will be epic!!!

To me…this new monstrosity looks like a mixture of something out of DOCTOR WHO, Carpenter’s THE THING, and SPACE 1999. Not very scary, though. Guess we’ll have to wait to see how it’s handled. I still say, the less human a creature looks, the less scary it is. The “twisted” human form is always the most terrifying. For argument sake, think…EXORCIST, NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, HALLOWEEN, THE RING… ALIEN, just to name a few… ~N

I agree Neurion. I think humanoid figures are always more intriguing. If it's a non descript blob or mass of limbs we basically classify it as "bug" and dismiss it due to it's lack of intelligence. Humanoid creations tap into our collective fear of the darkness humanity is capable of. The alien and its lifecycle (and Giger's work in general ) is so disturbing because it provides a visual metaphor for many of humanities most visceral and perverse acts.

I can't wait to see what this thing looks like, but the engineer is even more intriguing.
