MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 4:14 PMHis face don't looked burned? Maybe Shaw will hit the bottom to open the door for baby help?

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 4:17 PMThe big serpent thing makes me think of old '50s - 60's style sci-fi flick monsters. Still pretty cool design.

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 4:22 PMIs it just me, or is there a gigantic hole in the Engineer's chest?

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 4:22 PMDoes anyone remeber the Alien figures of the mid 90s,
Squiddy boy could be a dead ringer for the queen Facehugger toy!

Chris
AdminEngineerMay-22-2012 4:23 PMDefinitely looks like it's trapped in the air lock. What id this is a really massive FaceHugger? Like... huge.

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 4:33 PMWho knows? Maybe the Sjs are symbiotic organisms who have a very close, nasty little friend that comes and goes via a big, gaping hole in their chest.
That would defnitely be creepy.

Chris
AdminEngineerMay-22-2012 4:27 PM@Necronomicon IV,
I see that too. It's possible! But how would he still be fighting if his chest was ripped open? Good spot!

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 4:40 PMthat thing has the color, and the knobby legs of a facehugger.
giant face hugger lays little face hugger eggs...and we all go home a little embarassed for having been on this site in the first place.

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 4:40 PMYeah... I see the hole. Maybe his hole is related to myth of Prometheus? The eagle would peck at his torso and take his intestines (or whatever) and he would heal for the cycle to be continued daily for all eternity... Same deal for this appointed SJ?

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 4:43 PMOk, I'm kind of a noob here, so forgive me. But...
1) From what I've read so far, I'm guessing that the huge, tentacled creature in this shot is the full-grown version of what is removed from one of the human crew earlier in the film, while they're lying down in that glass tube medical chamber thingy? Is this accurate? If not, what exactly is the huge tentacled creature?
2) I get the fact that the tentacled creature is grabbing the space jockey/engineer and about to drag him away. What I don't understand is this: If the huge tentacled creature is supposedly saving the girl in this shot from the engineer, why is the creature also grabbing the girl? Doesn't seem like she's being helped, and doesn't seem like she's going to be able to get away. What's your take on this?
Thanks in advance for your input.

AdminEngineerMay-22-2012 4:50 PMI've added the new HD still image from the gallery which I just uploaded to your post The Xeno, to give another look.
@adamrparr,
Welcome! And I think the creature is on no one's side. I think it wants to kill both Shaw and the Engineer. Just the Engineer is in it's way first.

Agreed. It doesn't seem as though it's coming to anyone's rescue based upon what I'm seeing in that shot.
And again, is the tentacled creature taken out of that human's chest earlier in the film in that glass tube surgical chamber?
Thx for the welcome!

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 5:17 PMThat hole is probably where the elephant trunk looking thing connects to when the Sj is in the pilot suit-seat. How could he fight it if he was hurt with a wound that big?

Hmm, now that I look at this image. That trunk part does not connect fully down. Well maybe not yet. That big alien monster looks to be a homage to old 50' and 60's Sci-Fi films. Still very cool.

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 5:31 PMSurely that can't be the whole creature? Yes indeed that sucker is huge!!

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 5:42 PMThe more I see of Prometheus the more I'm convinced that Ridley is using all of the unseen or unused elements from the original Alien, perfect example this new creature is the STARBEAST that was envisioned before or at lest some of it's components are from the original script by the late O'Bannon. This movie will be epic!!!

Veteran MemberMemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 6:19 PMTo me…this new monstrosity looks like a mixture of something out of DOCTOR WHO, Carpenter’s THE THING, and SPACE 1999. Not very scary, though. Guess we’ll have to wait to see how it’s handled.
I still say, the less human a creature looks, the less scary it is. The “twisted” human form is always the most terrifying. For argument sake, think…EXORCIST, NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, HALLOWEEN, THE RING… ALIEN, just to name a few…

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 8:24 PMI agree Neurion. I think humanoid figures are always more intriguing. If it's a non descript blob or mass of limbs we basically classify it as "bug" and dismiss it due to it's lack of intelligence.
Humanoid creations tap into our collective fear of the darkness humanity is capable of. The alien and its lifecycle (and Giger's work in general ) is so disturbing because it provides a visual metaphor for many of humanities most visceral and perverse acts.

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 10:27 PMI can't wait to see what this thing looks like, but the engineer is even more intriguing.

AdminEngineerMay-23-2012 12:28 AMNeurion, good to see you here mate! Ans yes, I was thinking of THE THING too when I saw this.
However, I'm not so focused on the tentacles as much as the tiny bit of the body we can see in the far right of the frame. Can't imagine what the body looks like.. But I do see evident hinge joints - like that of an arm/finger, so not like a full tentacle like a squid - but a mix of the two.
Not a huge analysis, but something to make note of. I'm very curious to see what this creature looks like in full.

Chris
AdminEngineerMay-23-2012 12:31 AMMaybe I've been staring at this GIF for too long, but can we somewhat make out the side of it's "HEAD" in the very top right of the frame for a split second near the end of the initial frame?
Just seems to stand out to me.

Co-AdminMemberOvomorphMay-23-2012 12:46 AMI don't see a head, not yet. There is a blur of the Sj's arm that sort of looks like a large object for a brief second. Kind of flashes by in a random shape. You've been looking at it for too long! :P

MemberOvomorphMay-23-2012 8:39 AMI really hope this doesn't turn into an AVP thing where "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". I want to see all parties wishing destruction on one another. Regardless, i always thought it was cheesy in Alien resurrection how the baby turned against its mom. This appears to be the same thing, as we can only assume the SJ had something to do with that big sucker's creation. I'm hoping RS has something else in mind.
I'm startting to feel that the point of these clips and spoilers is to lead us to think things are going to occur one way, but in reality it's a complete 180. Wondering if the big creature is even attacking the SJ. Maybe they're mating or something else? I know it sounds ridiculous, but i don't know why Fox would reveal that the main "bad guy" is vulnerable to something else in the trailers....
