I don't kno how much credence ther is to this, I found this article....Prometheus Space Jockey Opening Scene Spoiler Revealed......The following is the body of that article: Prometheus Space Jockey Opening Scene Spoiler Revealed ***SPOILERS*** With every day seemingly bringing a new “Prometheus” reveal, today’s new insight into what may or may not be happening in the opening scene of the film, gives us a reveal into one of the most mysterious shots in the trailers. Over at http://ifonlyuk.com there’s an exclusive interview with Daniel Twiss (AKA actor Daniel James) who plays one of the Engineers in the film and in it . Read on if you dare. IfOnly: We have seen the virals, the teasers and the trailers. We have seen the alien life forms and the spacecraft from Scott’s Alien. What information can you give us on your character as the ‘Space Engineer’? Twiss: In the original Alien, the crew encounter the ‘Space Jockey’, now known as an ‘Engineer’ (the name for the alien race) however, as this is a semi-prequel, the ‘Engineers’ have a much bigger part to play. My character is that of a fairly young ‘Engineer’ who ritualistically sacrifices himself in the opening scene. This sacrifice is very different to any others as I have to drink an ancient mix which causes my body to literally disintegrate into the water around me. This then provides the first building blocks for new life to form on the alien planet. There are two other ‘Engineers’ who are in the rest of the film and have fairly large parts, but you will have to wait for release to find out more. So that’s what is going on in the trailer shot with the bald guy with the black stuff rooting through the veins in his arms! (Obviously if this interview is actually coming from someone that knows for sure what they are talking about – who knows what’s changing since filming the scene?) This seems to indicate the beginning of life, orchestrated by spacemen in the much talked about opening sequence of the film. Now whether this scene takes place on Earth or another planet that life began on is yet to be revealed and why did the the Engineers have make this sacrifice to create life? Is this for their own species or is this for another yet unseen species who’s running this whole game (Predators? … kidding!) . Whatever the answers, “Prometheus” is feeling more and more separated from the Alien franchise everyday, with larger questions, deeper mysteries about the secrets of life and of course expanding the story of the dead alien with the hole in his chest that got forgotten about by many as soon as the alien we know and love burst out of Kane’s chest. So with a little over a week to go, what are your thoughts? Is “Prometheus”, the one who stole fire from the gods, simply depicted as the humans in the film? Is the real connection to the “Prometheus” story something more to do with the Space Jockeys / Engineers and us humans have got caught in the middle… again? Are any of you fussed about the prospect of not seeing the alien we know and love in the final film or are you holding out for a fanboy reveal of the dribbling monster towards the end? Also as a quick hand in the air, anyone care to guess how this film will end and take a stab at how this will all connect to the original Alien, however slight? What do ya think?

I think you are right when you say "Whatever the answers, 'Prometheus' is feeling more and more separated from the Alien franchise everyday, with larger questions, deeper mysteries about the secrets of life". The idea that Prometheus begins with someone drinking a potion and falling apart into a waterfall to introduce the elements necesary for life to begin, seems like a very different and profound statement that sets it very much apart from alien. It's beginning at least is on a very different scale, more of a mythology that begins the universe and life.

Me neither but I am loving that idea of him melting into the water and seeding the planet ... Ok ya got me ... So after a big battle of the 'SPECIES', on that hell hole of a planet, the Engineers decide to kick in plan B ... PLAN B: Being as there's only a few left, the Engineers scrifice one of their own to TRY an reproduce their race again? ... I notice they 'may not' have (or need) sex, so this could be their way of procreation? ... but this contradicts the possibility on the second movie concentrating on the SJs homeworld 'IF' that is Ridders original intention ... Dunno ...

I nooh it. This movie has more panspermia theory than alien invasion theory. I think abiogenesis is answered by RS in this movie lol. Now there is going to be religious threads on this theory. lol Anyway, I can't say "I told you " so because my theories were about aggressive engineers invading planets, it looks like "I was soo wrong". In any case, waiting for the movie.
Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security.

The engineer looks very human.... Maybe we see the DNA scene shortly after he dissolves to show what their tech can do if handled correctly. DNA Shot The saucer ship and the engineer's presence at the same place also lay the ground for discovering the saucer-engineer relationship. I am guessing that relationship will not be expanded upon in this movie. Still, it raises the question of whether this sacrificial engineer is Prometheus. Does he help human's by sacrificing them? I am thinking he has not provided usable tech, he appears to have only used the tech (ancient mix). Also, what does "fairly young" mean? There is also an Elder Engineer and a third engineer that appears on the planet. We may be able to assume the Elder Engineer was around at the time of the Sacrificial Engineer. The third Engineer could just be a red shirt Engineer or it could be a red shirt crew member who is transformed into an Engineer. So, another question is raised (and discussed before): does the ancient mix only work one way, to dissolve someone to create seeds of life? Or does it work to transform? We clearly see mutations of Fifield and Holloway. There are also at least one dead crew member with veins (see link below), I think the picture is of Holloway but I can't tell. It is maybe the person who has the hammerpede jump out of their mouth. Dead Guy With Veins What are they transformed into and why don't they disintegrate like the Sacrificial Engineer?

That's why humans are similar to the engineers...they were made with the same DNA.
Have you heard of phoenix asteroids? They glow in every color of the rainbow...they travel endlessly through space...
