Just curious..
When I saw the original film, I had assumed the Space Jockey was a victim of the xeno. He was forced to land and set off a distress beacon and sometime shortly after he died from a chest explosion. He died and the xeno infested his ship laying eggs everywhere. The Nostromo comes along years later and receives the distress call. When they arrive, the eggs are in a sort of hibernation state until the crew of the Nostromo wakes one up.
{ Cameron comes along after and creates some sort of life cycle that "fits" into something easy for us to understand. He also has the colony living on the same planet but I don't recall any mention of the Space Jockey ship?? Did the Space Jockey run out of gas, land, set off his beacon, but had accidently landed on a planet with Xeno's and becomes victim and his ship infested? I bracket this is I completely understand how Cameron could be completely ignored for Prometheus cannon}

MemberOvomorphMay-22-2012 9:05 PMPrometheus is connecting space jockey's and these XENO's. So you're going to get answers to all these questions. As per spoilers, space jockeys are behind creation of humans and the xenos, so they're not victims they are the makers of this whole mythology. As for the pilot of the ship, it does look like space engineer or the new life form is likely to be inside the space engineer and he wants to carry it to the earth. Anyway, just wait few more days and you'll get answer on this theory.

MemberOvomorphMay-24-2012 4:58 PM What I heard was that the space jockey in the alien film crashed landed on the planetoid right after one Xeno got loose and killed off much of the crew and infected him. But before the Xeno could burst out of his chest he sent out a distress call to the other planetoid which is were the ship will be landing in the film. So the distress call the crew from Alien picks up was being sent by the space jockey to his comrades on the other planet. Which is the planet we will see in the film Prometheus. The distress call was probably a warning to his comrades not to set foot on the planetoid.
