How to enter the Temple and ship

Okay, It looks to me like they do not discover the ship right away. They go in and the probes start mapping out the temple walls. They then start checking out the head etc. From the holographic map, we see that there are ramps going around the interior of the temple and one shaft that leads down. I think the entrance of that shaft is the hole we have been watching them approach. The latest TV spot clued me in when they see the probe suddenly shoot down the hole. I think they repel down and find further tunnels that lead them to the ship at last. So, I think the ship's hangar was built and the ship was parked in it millenia ago. The space jockey is the survivor of a long dead race, but he's in cryosleep (per the soundtrack) The Temple built on top was created by another race of primitive beings who were visited by the SJs just the same as our ancestors.
