My Theory Regarding LV-223

Well my suspicion is that this LV-223 is an artificial world, probably inspired by Vincent Wards idea for Alien 3. The reason I say this is... 1. It seems in the trailers that the weather suddenly changes as if being controlled. 2. The ground, which looked perfectly solid opening up to allow the Juggernaut/Derelict to take off 3. The "Hangar" in which the Juggernaut/derelict resides doesn't seem to appear cavernous, it appears more mechanical. 4. Most of us assume that the Engineers/Space Jockey's are not only bio-mechanical themselves but also create bio-mechanical life (such as the Alien/Xenomorph), so what would be bigger than them creating a bio-mechanical world.

I like this idea, but just to play the devil's advocate: how would you explain those epic snow-capped mountains in the background of most of the landing shots?

@ shawluv... The answers simple, its called... Snow. Maybe you misunderstood the idea... The planet on the outside looks just like any other - atmosphere, land (possibly water), but beneath the surface, instead of lava, magma and a core would be all the tech need to sustain the "Planet" - Gravity generator, weather generator etc. Its a planet but not one that was formed naturally but one that was created bio-mechanically to look natural.

@Shawluv - Hot in the day and cold in the night. In the day the air temperature was 165 F, at night the temperature probably drops abysmally and the moisture still left over in the air probably freezes pretty quickly. That's just my take on it.

165F is too hot for us to live. 135F is the max.

It would be interesting if the Engineers/Space Jockey's home system is also completely artificial, including the sun.

Now, this is my kind of talk! How about a Dyson sphere built by the engineers?

I'm thinking that if anything the SJ/Engineers have made technological advancements to the Moon that Prometheus takes place on. (It is a moon, check if you'd like) Perhaps they even have the technological abilities to have the moon make changes to ITSELF. i.e. Roads or hangar caverns. neat to think about though!

Have we ever been told what the "LV" stands for?

Or they could have just, you know, built a base on a preexisting moon that was already there or something...

After watching the directors cut of Alien last night, I'm almost convinced that LV-223 is in fact LV-426 Here's why. When the Nostromo is seen cruising into the system, there is one large planet with rings and some moons (one of which is LV-426). Then we see when the Prometheus is approaching LV-223 that there is a large ringed planet that it and other moons are orbiting. Also when the crew is trying to find out where they are after waking up from hypersleep, Lambert states "we're just short of Zeta 2 Reticuli" ....... isn't that where LV-223 is supposed to be? Now I know that this has been argued on the forum before but here's my hypothesis as to what happens. At the end of Prometheus, one of the SJ/Engineers/infected crew sets forth in motion the terraforming sequence on LV-223 changing it into a volcanic waste land to try and destroy all evidence of the engineers/sj/Prometheus. Meanwhile Weyland Industries covers up all info regarding the mission/planet etc even going as far as renaming LV-223 to LV-426. 30 years or so later, knowing what is really on LV-426 (223) they get the Nostromo to investigate the "signal", knowing full well what they would find. let the flaming begin lol

And to add, perhaps we've been mislead to think that the scene with the blue guy at the waterfall and the Engineer ship hovering above is the beginning sequence. Maybe it's the end scene where the Engineers are terraforming LV-223 to try and erase all evidence of themselves and the Prometheus.....thus turning it into what we know as LV-426

@Chairman - good idea you have but i disagree as it would raise a couple of points that contradict what we already know 1. Alien engineer was still in his chair when his chest bursts open where as Prometheus engineer died in the escape pod 2. Ridley said this movie was not a prequel and your idea would mean this movie was a prequel. He also stated that he didn't want to make a prequel because "everyone would know what the ending would be so why would a prequel be made". Other comments were that this movie was far from anything close to leading up to the events of Alien. Ridley also stated that if a sequel to Prometheus was made, it would "go even further away from Alien"
