Makeup and some grooming, or lack thereof, can literally transform a woman's looks. Skin tone changed, some weight gained and the most beautiful woman can look horrid. And you guys wonder why we spend so much time/money on beauty products... :P
Here is an article about how Charlize transformed for the role:

Holy shit... Let me pick up my jaw.
But IMO to tell you the truth she wasn't Horrible looking in the picture in the right but she looks amazing on the right. Damn.

You can comment all the stuff you want. I like her, and I am gonna watch movie second time just for her. lol
Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security.
That just proves my belief that women are fiendish shape-shifters to beguile men and their embroidered leather wallets.
@Sundar, yeah.
There's a saying -- "cheese, wine and woman are always good when they are semi-old." :D

Heard of Monster, but haven't seen it. Evidently it's based on a true story about some female serial-killer.
I can't think of many pretty women like Ms. Theron going out of their way to play as a woman who looks like that. I know that they applied make-up and other stuff to get the appearance correct, but still.

Whoa! That's just surreal right there.
These pics should be used for an anti-drinking campaign to prove beer goggles exist. Contact @ iapetus to learn which beer goggles are passive.

Are you saying women are Jews? lol Borat reference.
Please don't post such images of Spanish, Brazilian and Venezuelan girls. I may cry looking at them. :/

Hey that's clear photo editing. Look at her eyes ;P

@Sky, nope, She glued her eyelids up. It's a scary yet popular practice in Japan.

No...wow - isn't this a little misleading?...
I think the very important distinction here is that Charlize, deliberately, "uglified", herself - including, "ugly", make-up and ugly false teeth?
I don't think there is a genuine parallel with average humans, there, and this isn't really fair to Charlize, in particular.
I don't know about all celebrity faces, but the hard fact of it is that, for Charlize and the relatively few others that Nature and genetics have so particularly blessed with gifts, even on a bad day, they start from a very different place than most humans - and what applies in one direction, does not necessarily apply in the other.
Charlize Theron without make-up does not look like Aileen Wuornos?
Charlize Theron without make-up looks like a woman with particularly even features, an open face and clear skin with an unusually strong and prominent bone-structure - who is without make-up:

The same applies to some others of the blessed:

I don't know...I think claiming that women of this percentile are not very significantly more attractive than most people in their natural state - and aren't starting from a completely different place before they even touch their make-up stick - is just wishful thinking.
O_O No one called her ugly, far from it. We were marveling at the wonders of makeup, at least I was.
I am female you know, not a perverted guy horndogging over her pics XD
@Spartacus; Now you know why some of us prefer to wear little makeup. I don't wear much, only mascara and I keep a very tight regime on my skincare so my skin stays naturally nice. I hate the idea that a man would not recognize me without makeup on...
If a women looks great with or without makeup I say that's awesome. For me all that ever mattered was her Mind anyways.
I think there are very few women who look great without makeup and charlize is among them. She looks good either way. :P
@svanya, thanks for the scary stuff.

she's had a good one, I'll give her that. Nothing wrong with it if it improves. These days, you'd be hard-pressed to find an actor who hasn't had one
