I guess I've been living under a rock for such a long time and thus it never occurred to me that it was possible to put a dead guy on trial....not to mention that Socrates has been dead for like, what, over two millennia? He pioneered some enlightened debate and, for that, was given a drink that was laced with hemlock.
Then again, Mormans can actually convert dead people to their faith. How they do it if the dead can't speak or agree to such terms is beyond me, though.
To be honest, when I'm reading that article I feel like I'm reading something posted by The Onion. lol

I have to say, that at first I thought you meant Sócrates the former Portugals' Prime-Minister, that SOB that ruined my country and fled to France.
After reading the Link, I just thing how dumb and pointless it all is. The man is dead for over 2300 years now, and the general feeling is that the man was guilty of nothing more than being a humorous social critique.
As a Philosophy graduated my self, I find many such cases in the History of Philosophy: Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Pithagoras, Giordano Bruno, Galileu, Espinoza, Peter Abelard, just to name a few [believe me, there are a lot of them].

The scary bit is, even after 2300 years, they barely acquitted him in a 50:50 split vote. Really shows just how far humanity has progressed since then, doesn't it? BTW, his original accuser was a leather merchant.
And Socrates was quite a badass at some point... our idea of him is usually formed by Bill&Ted's Excellent Adventure and similar stuff - you know, the thinker lost in space or whatever. But he was a warrior. A heavily armored hoplite. Earlier in life he looked more like Gerard Butler playing Leonidas. Yes, Socrates fought for Athens in several battles against the Spartans. The Spartans did win - barely.
