Does this give any weight to the whole David being part of the seed for the xeno? I still haven't been able to piece together David's ultimate role, maybe this is it?

@Shane
I assumed this aswell....
I thought the movie would link to Alien as follows...
Dead Engineers..... how and why?
Ghost Engineers.... running away from something why?
Only one alive Engineer his sarcophagus intact, with 3 sarcophagus with what looks to be holes near the chest area.... how come?
Then with the cast credits and sacrefice Engineer, i thought we would see those scenes a little how we have in trailers with no explanation, i.e David will not find out what they was running from. Maybe only hint he gets is that something they created or messed about with backfired.
The End scene we would have a flash back like the Water Fall, begining of time scene.
I would assume that scene would show us the Derelict leaving LV223 with the Eggs on board, we would see the Engineer get into his seat and then go to the Derelict in space.... then show the Derelict lose controll a bit and crash land on LV 426.... we then pan to the Egg Chamber with one Egg open...
Thats all they would have had to had shown, no Xeno, no Face Hugger, no Engineer Chest Buster, or even how he gets Face Hugged.
This would have allowed us to join the dots to sugest that something went wrong hundreds of years ago and killed all but 2 Engineers, one managed to take away the Derelict that contained the deadly cargo and attempt to quarantine or get rid of the Organism, only the Cargo was breached/compremised not long after setting off and that LV 426 was the closet barron place that the Cargo could be settled down on to quarantine it....
This would have given us the explanation for Alien....
without....
Seeing a single Xeno or Face Hugger
Seeing how they was created... we would assume in simular fassion to the Organism and Events that transpire in Prometheus.
It would allow Ridley to shut the door on the Alien Xeno, the fan boys get their explanation those who want it a Mystrey still get their Mystrey.
The movie is not a direct prequel, because the end of it is a flash back to a event that happened hundreds if not thousands of years prior and is responsible for the decline and downfall off the Engineers on LV223.
Thats what i would have done, but the again we have Lindelof so we dont know what we are in store for.....
You see the Spaits contained Xeno and Face Hugger and Eggs....
The Hijacked Lindelof has none of these and maybe its just a SMOKE MONSTER.
The Prometheus plot that Lindelof and Ridley finalised with something simular to what i have put above would have given closure on the Xeno, while the main movie has nothing to do with them.

After the Early Trailers and before all of the more spoilerish ones...
I assumed the Xeno was created by either one of these.
1) A long time before Prometheus in some sort of Experiment gone wrong, potentially in regards to Organism infecting a Engineer.
2) That Shaws Baby Face Hugs the Engineer.
3) David 8 becomes infected with the Fire and becomes more of a Replicant and thus more Human... (Pinocchio) This upsets Engineer, and then David is given Face Hug treatment via Shaws Baby.
Reading into the trailers we have now etc.... i am kind of leaning towards Number 2....
Which makes this movie a Prequel to a potential Prequel to Alien

@BigDave
Sorry man, for me that is still too much. It's just something the doesn't really need to be shown.
I'm starting to think the mural we see that looks like the alien is what births from an engineer(which explains the differences between it and the xeno we commonly know). That is what birthed from the jockey in the '70 film. Combined some more human DNA in it and we have our alien. The mural is all that is needed at that point to put a lot of mysteries to rest. Most people seem more interested in what that creature looked like more then how the ship got there....or why it is there. And it is subtle enough that someone like me won't go "wow, that just told way more then it needed too".

There is one theory on space tapirs where that image of david;s head and the pilot aliens is shown.
Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security.

I thought that David would be part of the Xeno myself a while back but I'm not so sure now. I don't think we're going to get any clues about the Xeno at all in this film... Just lots of calamari.

"Does this give any weight to the whole David being part of the seed for the xeno?"
No. No it doesn't.

I don't think so, it just means when he loses his head he can still acquire and store data somehow !!! Some Kid of Specialised battery Operated RAM I assume, or something like that !!!

I've put foward the idea that the alien is an earlier version of some of the creatures in this before. Everyone is calling the creatures "proto-aliens" but what if they came after it genetically? What if they were the template for all of these. Like if it is billion of years old maybe these are all thing the engineers created later on for whatever purpose.
And the lead in to Alien is nothing more then a scene with the company knowing "something is out there".
Anyone remember that terrible Made for TV movie/series "the hidden"/"alien" rip off?
