no movie has ever been the be-all-and-end-all, even my favorite's have certain elements I am not 100% happy with....u can never please everyone...

Bio - I am afraid you will not find out. Not in Prometheus. Juxt- of course not. But you get my point- this won't be close. We have built it up to be a high-brow Sci-Fi masterpiece... It looks like it will prob be just a pretty good movie.

So it looks like RS will make a sequel then..? To help explain things further? I'm only a little disappointed... I'm sure Prometheus will still be a great film!

A sequel is a cert. Lots of loose ends still (Lindelof's style). Hope it will be great!

Hopefull the next installment will be the Empire Strikes Back of the Piece, not the Matrix Reloaded!

I read all the NGR01spoilers, and if anything, it makes me want to see the movie even more. It sounds like what I was expecting and hoping for in this film.

@ melkor I am happy you made this thread, I felt bad about all the hate NGR01on the AVP boards after he took the time to answer all their questions and did his best to tell them why he gave the movie a negative review. I am pretty upset that Scott did the "Lost" marketing campaign strategy of saying the film will tackle "big issues" when it is just your standard scifi horror film (at least as far as the plot is concerned).

you know their has been some very bizarre speculations on these forums....I'm glad that it seems the movie is not gonna be this bizarre mind -fuck Odyssey meets inception nonsense....seriously.. ..just a good deep story with good performances...some horror and action and amazing visuals and set designs...that's all i was asking for and from what i have read those will all be delivered...wrapped up nicely with a red bow!

@ Juxtapose, now when you say "deep" story what do you mean exactly? It sounds pretty shallow to me as the "depth" is only a smokescreen.

@Juxtapose... in general I agree. I don't want a Salman Rushdie set novel in space... But- I would like to see a decent twist/ reveal (which RS has indicated we would see) and the spoilers seen so far don't really seem to show this. Also RS has said this film would tackle big issues so we have been led to expect something amounting to more than your run-of-the-mill Sci-Fi... Yes it ponders the creation of Man. So do some Star Trek episodes. Also- Lindelof and RS comments of late say that the ending will make us watch Alien in a new light/ context, but the spoilers I have seen don't yet convince me this will be the case. 1 year ago I thought that the Engineer on LV-426 was a mysterious dude who had been killed by his own bio-creation in a mysterious way. 1 year from today it seems likely I will think that the Engineer on LV-426 was a mysterious dude who had been killed by his own bio-creation in a mysterious way. the endings a bit shit to be honest...not bothered if the answers to alien were addressed just kinda disapointed with it all..IF it ends up being that way, just cant help but feel its not and hoping RS has hit the nail on the head, but leaving some openloose ends for a sequal! Might aswell stick the fake ending in with shaw and her baby sat watching the sunsent together arm in tenticle! Oh well still gonna have a blast come June 2nd!

@Drakeequation I also saw the rather abusive comments made towards NGR01 at the AVP site, and I felt bad for the guy. I for one appreciated his honest appraisal of the film, and that he took the time to answer so many questions. His reasons for the negative review are understandable. But for me personally, the aspects he didn't like are not really an issue that would make me not like the movie. We all have different wants and expectations, and In the end, some folks will like the film, and some will not, no biggie. I'm still excited, and looking forward to seeing the film.

@Drakeequation & Melkor Yeah I don't even know what i mean by "deep". I never wanted the plot to get over complicated....but at the same time I don't want it to be dumbed down either....and at this point the spoilers seem very ambiguous in their reviews and kinda polarized...tho their is more positive than negative reviews .... So I am still very curious to see what I might think in the end. I often read reviews of movies i have really loved and then when i read the review I often wonder if those who wrote it even saw the same movie...different strokes for different folks.....oh well... we'll see?!.

Hey Frosty - i live abroad now mate, so I actually get to see it tomorrow evening. Boom! Can't wait...! Dragging the missus at midnight, she is not happy, and if it turns out to not be a great movie I will have egg on my face as I have been bigging it up all year, haha! I really think i will like it, I just think I have bigged it up in my mind massively, and it's been exacerbated by comments from those involved!

i've said this before but I guess I will again the concept of meeting your creator and finding out it wants to destroy you isn't deep? the fact they meet their creator isn't deep? so I guess if you met your creator that is just another day? I'm not trying to be rude but please, I don't think we should oversimplify things, sure we knew we would meet our creators, this movie shows us what happens when this occurs. I'm very excited reading these reviews. It's not a "we"overhyped it and are disappointed, it is actually "you" (whomever does this, I"m not pointing a finger) that overhyped it and are disappointed because it isn't what "you" wanted. NGR101 did get abuse over his review and I find it lame and childish. That's why I hang out here and try to promote this as a more adult forum.

@ SiantsSinphony They don't "meet their creator" they meet a soldier who is part of the Alien race that seeded life on Earth (a soldier who then proceeds to try to kill the crew without explanation). This entire concept of meeting your Alien maker only to have them want to destroy you was already done in AVP. If you don't remember, the beginning of AVP shows the Predator race facilitating the rise of advanced human civilization.

I think it just all points to the desire of Ridley Scott and 20th Century Fox to make some kind of series of movies. That's the trouble with a series, the ending isn'y going to answer anything, just point you towards where they want to go with movie 2. So likely best just to watch the movie thinking this is the start of something...

I think we've all fell victim to our own creation. We've speculated it to the point that NO film could match our expectations- at least not in a single movie. 2 hours just isn't enough for all of our hopes. I'm sure I will still enjoy the movie. The imagery alone should be unlike anything we've ever seen before. The basic "survival" theme of the story is certainly not new, but nothing else really is either. If Ridley has a few good parts in the movie that are shocking and thought-provoking, that's enough for me. It is after all, just $15 for an IMAX ticket. Where else are you gonna get so much for so little?

Darkeequation The Predators are being worshiped by humans. No where does it say they created us. They destroyed us not because they wanted to, but because of the alien infestation got out of hand. O.K. the engineer in this film is of the same race of beings who created us. So, yes, he still is part of the same beings who are our creator(s).

I still think this will be the best Sci-Fi in years, although i really did love the new star trek but those are comparing apples and oranges. But I will also be a bit disappointed if there is not the smallest of connections at the end, i really am one of those that want a little more resolution to the SJ on the Derelict. I have been another that has built this movie up to the LOTR of this whole series. just have to get to a place to ease back a bit before next Friday. on the other hand, money equals sequel, i know all of us on the boards will be going, but i truly hope that it hits big, because while it needed to be "R' Rated, i am a little worried that since it is NOT PG-13 that it might not raise enough money to continue on. it seems like nothing is certain for an R rated film these days. depending on budget. but we will be seeing another kick-ass, another Sin city, so R's don't always get the shaft. I guess that is why i really wanted them to stuff as much as possible into this one. but we will see, Yet there is still a great sense of reality laid at our feet in this new Ripley offering, I mean Star Trek is fun for the lighter side of what space could be like, same even in Star Wars (a Jedi vs. a full , but Ripley hits the reality button for me, I mean, if we think that we are going to meet a bunch of awesome beautiful blue aliens, and form an alliance, not sure about that, (would be awesome though) I have always seen more of the mining for resources, the colonization of a planet, but with that there are airborne sicknesses that humans have never been exposed to, you think we have poisonous and deadly animals on our planet, I am sure if we explored deeper enough we would find things similar to the cobraxeno, (that actually seems hugely more realistic then the other creatures of this series. I think for me Ripley’s tale of the universe, shows the amazement of exploration but the extreme caution that needs to take place, just because you create a shuttle to get you to another place does not make you immune to death. So just in these thoughts alone, Ripley hits the deep levels. Regardless, if it makes any sense, my heart is warmed by getting to enter the darker regions of space again. this is a gift for us all that we have another chapter and another tour of Ripley's universe.

Also, as was mentioned before, AVP took many concepts from the original Alien script so even if you are implying Prometheus is repeating what AVP did, remember AVP is just taking ideas from the original Alien script and recycling them.

@ SaintsSinphony In AVP the Predators give mankind technology and are worshiped as gods and then cause an infestation that gets out of hand and also hunt humans. The Engineers in the film are not profound creatures and there is no exposition about their motives. They simply provide the genetic material to make us, in this respect they are as much our Gods as other people are. Unless they engineered us with a plan, they are about as Godly as a teenage father who has a kid and then wants his girlfriend to get rid of it because he is afraid it will cause him trouble.

I respect NRG01 for answering them. He's still a dick who went in hating. That's pretty much proven by his actions over there. If you follow that board closely you'd see. Or at least a good portion of that forum found him to be a dick.

Explanation is overrated. Seriously, the movie would be better if he sat there and explained all his motivation like in a James Bond film? Nothing need to be explained. Plus, only David can speak his language and he obviously says something to piss him off as the retaliation to it is beheading. Maybe David and what he says is why they are heading for earth. Do they subtitle him speaking?

I decided to go for it and I read all of NGR01's posts within that thread (40 pages... my god) I'm not upset by anything which I read, nor do I regret reading it. For the past two months I have been on this site reading and writing about all of these "theories" and at some point I truly believed we covered EVERY base any good writer could come up with. The fact is we all helped figure out the plot, good for us, now lets go watch it on screen :P I have some gripes about the apparent ending (I only say apparent because I'm basing this off of one guy's review). # 1 - So if Shaw plans on going to the Engineer's planet, WTF does she hope to get accomplished? Is she gonna yell at them, "bad engineers! don't hurt us humans!" What is she going to do when she gets there? As they say in Aliens: "what are we supposed to use? harsh language?" # 2 - The whole birth scene at the end of the film sounds cheap. I never really like movies that end with such an overt cliffhanger that is pretty dependent on a sequel. This one sounds very AVPish and that's kinda annoying... I prefer films which create enough ambiguous space at the end that SOMEONE could write a script which could expand on it, LIKE Alien. James Cameron took it in a different direction than RS would have BUT he still made it work, and very well. Outside of those things the storyline seems legit and moves along logically with some nice twists and turns along the way. The ending sequence is also very logical, and I can't complain about it conceptually. It's just a little eh, when it comes to endings especially since it's a TBC type one. Amazing Cinematography Great Cast/Characters + Good Acting Sci-Fi Creatures + Technology World Class Directing Alien References Galore All of those elements will lead to a GOOD movie. Who knows, it could be GREAT? I think it could be just that!
