In the book version of Alien, it starts off: "Seven Dreamers. You must understand that they were not professional dreamers. Professional dreamers are highly paid, respected, much sought after talents...." This goes on for about 5 pages, describing the different personalities of the characters in terms of how they dreamt. So, when I see those images of David interfacing with Shaw's dreams, it really gives me the feeling of going back to "day one, page one," of Alien, which I think is pretty cool. The only down side is that it opens up the possibility of this being a Total Recall kind of story, not that I think they would ever go there.

@ Ebugogo I don't think you need to worry too much about this going into Total Recall territory. I do not think Ridley Scott is trying to talk about the themes of reality vs dreams as much as creation vs death. This is a theme that he started with Alien in which he tackled the concept of birth and death being one and the same (as manifested in the chestburster). I think this film will take on that topic on a much grander scale in the theme of creation and destruction being tied together.

'Alien' was unique in the fact that both the movie and the Novelization were incredibly good. Even more unique was the fact the two complimented each other, and even if you had read the book first (like I did) it did not prepare you for the emotional over-drive of the movie. Alan Dead Foster, when he's on the ball, is a pretty good writer. Remember that this was the 70's, and terms like hypersleep were somewhat new concepts. Also, a big point of the plot of the film and the script was the small cast, which was something Foster was trying to flesh out a bit more than the movie was. Good read though, wasn't it. I recall in the book the Alien was far more imposing.
