At the end of Prometheus one space scientist takes an alien ship to their homeworld to find out why they seeded life on Earth and why they want to destroy us. Both films have a large alien structure that is explored by humans and both have a creature guarding the structure. Both films also hint at a great cataclysm that befell the alien civilization. I will say that Mission to Mars does a better job because it actually shows the steps that went into the evolutionary process and explains what happened a bit better. Furthermore, to get into the Alien structure in Mission to Mars the astronauts have to play a musical set of notes that correspond to our DNA and in Prometheus they have to play a flute to start the alien controls. Any thoughts from people who have seen both films?
