Lindelof basically calling us idiots....

I think Lindelof may be trying to be the science fiction equivalent of David Lynch. Unfortunately, I do not think the Lynch open-ended post modernist style of story telling works for sci-fi.

Spaihts and Lindelof should stay away from sci-fi. The editing and pacing decisions are down to Ridley Scott who said that he had decided that this would be a 2 hour movie with tight editing. Why whould that be? Is there a ton of even worse scenes he had to leave on the cutting room floor? Or was he afraid to make a 'slow' movie with real atmosphere, in case no-one would go to see it? An atmospheric sci-fi movie needs time to develop, time for the audience to really understand and get into the concepts being presented. As it is, audiences are going to be seriously disappointed. I just hope the failure of Prometheus doesn't close the door for big budget intelligent sci-fi films.

@Drakeequation: Lynch tried to do a grand sci-fi epic - Dune. Dune was OK, but no great shakes. Lynch is far better when he does something like Mulholland Drive or Blue Velvet. Neither of them sci-fi, but rather a look into the disturbing underbelly of 'normal' America. The stuff of nightmares indeed.

@eggchamber exactly..in Alien it's like 45 minutes before they even land..we really needed that same time in Prometheus to develop all the characters...he should have paced it the same as Aliens infact, and it would have worked instead it is straight into the spaceship, they land, straight to the temple, back again, mutation...grrrr....kill kill...c-section, jockey wakes, weyland, crash bang floernjg

@Drakeequation Please do not compare Lindelof to David Lynch. You'd rather comapare him to Night M. Shyamalan. Lynch is pure genius, totally out of Lindelof's league.

I agree; character development is key in ANY movie. We have to know the characters and what they're up against so we care about them and we have to get a feel for who they are. Alien did this well by slowly introducing us to normal life on the ship and letting us watch the crew interact as they normally would. Go back and watch the first half hour of the movie and notice how natural the dialogue feels. You get the feeling that these are real people in real situations. Never give movies a pass on this by saying, "well, it's not necessary and it's not that kind of movie."

@Frantz have you seen it?

@Frantz - I know from your comments that you like the film. I enjoyed it too. But what do you think of the loop holes and small things that people have mentioned that they didn't agree on. There are a lot but just to mention a few - Not enough character building, jumping from clip to the next without any updates on people - Charlie and Filfield (I know their dead but even John Hurt in Alien got a send off). There are loads which am sure you have read so far. Do you feel that these are the small things that in fact make a film more realistic, gritty and take it home. The only reason am directing this question towards you is because I have been a long follower of the threads and you seem to always come with a and i'll use the word again 'realistic' or straight approach to what you think and feel. And to make it clear am not getting at you just want to know what your ideas are. The film is visually stunning, we all agree but somehow i feel these bits seem to make it trip at the last hurdle. Great watch none the less.
