-----------------------------------------------------------------Ok, seemed to have lost a massive amount of written work for whatever reason! Not going to re write it....I will just say that this movie should have been at least 45 minutes longer to build up characters.

I heard from these forums that we Americans get a longer movie.....but I'm unsure of it. If it's not as long as others have said, then we can all keep our fingers crossed that Sir Ridley will add extra content to the DVD & Blu-Ray release of this movie.

It was a joke that we'll be getting a longer movie.
The reason you lost your entry was because your session timed out on you. Whenever you write a lot, it is best to copy it before submitting just in case the site sends you back to the login screen. You entry might actually be recoverable. I'll check and see.

My longer critism which mysteriously vanished mentioned the running time and the fact that it should have been at least 45 mins longer to flesh out the different characters and make the audience feel for them when they meet a grisly end. Something stinks about the running time, it feels rushed; I think that a lot of us wanted a slow burning dark 2001 with an Alien vibe but I personally didn't just watch that movie, what I saw was an MTV rushed movie full of mind blowing visuals and sets (amazing by the way) but it seems to me that Scott somehow became Fox's latest cash cow...after all he wasn't originally going to be the director of this film untill Fox insisted he direct it...what does that say?

There is a strong likelihood that we WILL be able to restore your thread since your session timed out and sent the thread into "limbo". Please bare with us while we work behind the scenes to try to recover it.

To be fair to Scott, there wasn't exactly a lot of character development that went on in the original Alien before the Xenomorph was introduced. Maybe Scott was trying to tailor the film to US audiences who might not appreciate a long, slow-paced film? I know we have pretty short attention spans when it comes to summer blockbusters lol

definitely solid enough character development. the experience and the story and the acting propel the film. running time is 119 minutes.

I've been teaching editing for 20 yrs. and just finished editing the 3rd season of a PBS show of mine so I speak from some experience. If those 4 latest YouTube scenes are any indication of the visual narrative of this film, it seems incredibly choppy and disjointed.

I'm waiting for an extended cut because right now the film doesn't have enough time to expand on anything, be it characters, story, motivation or mystery.
