With the level of sophisticated technology the engineers had at their disposal I would imagine the approaching Prometheus vessel would have been detected light years from LV-223 giving the facility time to inform the preserved engineer and prepare a trap. Is it plausible the ship could have just 'sneaked up' on what has been described as a 'military instillation'? Nit-picking? Maybe Relevant? For you to decide

Could be that the Engineer in stasis was left there so when a species they have created appears on the moon, it shows that they have reached a level of technology where they need to be destroyed for some reason?? or maybe that shows they are at a level were they need an injection of black goo(DNA) to take them to the next level of evolution.
