It was THEIR hype that spoilt it, not ours

The problem with Prometheus was the hype created, not by the fans but by the virals, the clever and carefully released multiple trailers, the Weyland website etc. so much time and effort was spent creating a mystique about it, but that mystique didn't exist in the film itself. We were all lead like lambs to the slaughter to expect something they couldn't deliver. When so much is invested in pre release virals and marketing, you want something special. What we got was something average in story and atmosphere, while being great aesthetically. All my non hardcore Alien friends, the casual cinema goer, all agreed it was not as good as they expected.

Personally I blame Ridley Scott for spoiling it all for us by making the movie.

The problem with Prometheus was the hype created, not by the fans but by the virals You're absolutely right, I agree with the fact that FOX released too many virals and trailers, sites etc. However, all that aside, let's not forget that fans of the Alien films (like myself) had expectations because of Ridley returning to the genre as well, so this film would still be hyped regardless of the trailers etc, although not as much.

I feel the same. We were told to expect something profound and mind blowing but all we got was something average. The whole "god was an astronaut" theory is old, and even though I think it's a pretty cool idea anyone with an interest in sci fi will have heard it a million times by now. I think Riddley must have watched a few episodes of Ancient Aliens before he made this! lol

Don't make me laugh. You know good and well everybody expected it to be this perfect film simply because Ridley had control of the wheel. Don't try to turn this around on fox. If they had said George Lucas was going to direct it, this site probably wouldn't even exist.

I would have to say i was disapointed ONLY due to it being Ridlys return to thsi genre, went in with an open mind full well knowng its not a direct prequel etc but a stand alone film. But as a stand alone film its too fast paced, no character development, and very frustrating..

I thought the Weyland website was great - and the virals from the TED talk and the David 8 commercial were good too. What I thought started to ruin it for me was that they released teaser trailer after teaser trailer after teaser trailer - each with more and more of the movie in it (and different clips) to gain interest. I did kind of feel that I was watching one long extended version of the trailers in the cinema. I enjoyed Prometheus - however I think I would have enjoyed it more had I not have seen the trailers.... but saying that - if the trailers weren't there to build interest would people have wanted to go and see it? I have to say, by the end in the last week before Prometheus was out, I did feel a bit trailered out. (especially when there was a trailer for the making of the trailer - that was a bit much). I thought it was a good movie, and made me think a lot after it - not sure if there will be a sequal - but if there is - I will be avoiding trailers as much as I can.

I spoiled the crap out of Star Wars Episode 1 before it came out. Then I left myself in the dark for Episode 2, and was SHOCKED and THRILLED that Yoda had a lightsaber fight. If Prometheus 2 DOES come out, I won't be looking at a single damn thing before it's released.
