MemberOvomorphJun-03-2012 5:43 PMWell i went to see Prometheus on Friday the 1st June, in the UK, suprisingly before any of my friends; much to my delight later at the pub haha. I wont place any real spoilers in this, but some may be regarded as such which i apologise.
I thought the film was very good, and very entertaining, plenty of things which made me think, and should make you think i would assume.
I had many questions born from this very site answered by the film only to be replaced with more, and the desire for a sequal, oh and a directors cut.
I will say Ridley, in my opinion did not disapoint me, and i thought the acting was great, ive taken a shine to Michael Fassbender, with the way he played David.
You may have different opinions on this, but i did not find it scary. It not being scary is debatable but i for one was fine, although i will openly edmit i did jump once but ALIEN remains my fave in this area, maybe its because of watching that so much i didnt find it as scary. I didnt find it as violent as i thought, (yes it was violent) but i think this will be where the directors cut may come into play.
A quick minor spoiler or something to get you wanting it to be shown faster is that there are plenty of beasties in all shapes and sizes :P
Overall i really enjoyed it and the ideas. I hope to watch it again, and any further instalments.
Thanks x
Note: the urge to place spoilers is really hard to resist.

I really enjoyed the film, I do agree to some extend that the final creature scene wasn't entirely necessary, because I didn't go to see it because of xenomorphs.
I respect the opinion of people who were not exactly satisfied, and having high expectations is what ambitious projects like Prometheus should consider from the start.
But I think the film itself is a beautiful journey, no matter that it ends up unanswered, it provokes the mind ant that's something that, let's say movies like big blockbusters are not even trying to aim at, so I give it the credits.
The movie has this mythological aura I personally enjoyed very much, don't quite get the endless attempts to dissect this movie like it's something else.
I would like to see it second time, sure will find things that I've missed the first.
Anyway I really would love to get at least a bit more of the engineer's point of view, regardless if he was from the same race as the first one on the opening scene, don't quite get the concept of instant hate towards the visitors who he might/might not have any information about.
Sure this film will be picked up bit by bit when the dust settles and the constant bashing turns into real reasonable discussions.

MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 1:31 AMAll this talk of directors cuts makes me wonder if there is going to be a three hour version of the film when all is said and done. I sure hope so!

MemberOvomorphJun-04-2012 6:34 AMI would say considering how much stuff they squeeze into a movie script these days, a 4-hour long film ("Director's Cut") would be appropriate...
I remember when Return of the King (LOTR) was shown in theatres... It was long but I didn't suffer. No bladder damage... I like films slow; the old-fashioned way. A director friend of mine made excrutiatingly long films in the 60s-70s - loved by the critics back then by the way - he used 25 minutes monologues (only because the length of available longest reels was exactly that much back then). It's a bit extreme... but I hate someone saying "let's move along with the plot" all the time. This is insane rush, not filmmaking. Films sometimes slow down at points. It's not right if they don't.
