Ship to ship combat? Prometheus trailer of trailer.

@humanityFTW...here are some detailed instructions for how to post pics and links for you and anyone else who has trouble.........if you look at the bar of options at the top of your reply window you will see two icons of import.....the white/green box is for posting pics and the infinite or chain looking symbol to its right is the one for posting links. When you click on either a window should pop up that asks for a url....If it doesn't pop up, your browser will ask you if you want to temporarily allow scripted windows...allow it........for pics, right click on the pic you want on a given web page, not google images (won't work...go into the source page all the way), right clicking will force a window to pop up...choose properties and copy the URL of your chosen pic....paste the URL in the scripted window that appears when you click on the white/green icon......hit enter and script with the url will appear in your reply....when you post, your pic will come up........................for links, click on the infinite looking icon and follow the same proceudre until it pops up.......copy the address for your destination page at the top of your browser and paste it into that window...hit enter and script with the address will appear in your reply...now, there will be highlighted text in that script (your text to link here...) replace that, including the decimals, with whatever you like, such as the name of the page or thread.....post and your link will appear in blue.

combat..maybe, yeah..in the first clip it seems though the derelict is exploding from within not shot down?

That object being launched from the Prometheus will be the escape pod Vickers uses to get away before Janek smashes the Prometheus into the Derelict.

I think the OP makes a really reasonable suggestion. @Ghorgul.......I do it....because I do it.....they're forum posts....not articles of the Constitution. I'm not writing an entrance essay into Stanford or anything. I make an effort to spell correctly and avoid acronyms such as LOL at all costs, because I personally don't prefer using them. Otherwise, frankly, the...........phenomenon you so clearly have austere and, well, socio-superior issues with is an intentional, conscious choice to be as informal as one can be given the forum in which it is being employed. Also, as I like writing in a stream of consciousness concerning my ideas, the.....phenomenon is perfectly suited to my enjoyment in this instance. We are here for the purposes of fun.....are we not? If I was out to please everyone's literary sensibilities, I would have given a damn about the dots to begin with....clearly, my informal interest lies in the ideas we are here to discuss in civility and friendship....rather than lording legalistic grammatical certainty over one of my fellow forum members......................thank you for your keen eye..................

OK so if ANYONE hasn't figured it out yet, Vickers is running toward the escape pod, gets in it, crosses her arms then it gets blown out the ship before Janek crashes it into the fleeing Alien ship. I really don't know why it is that people still don't understand the events as they happen. You should be able to piece it together from what we've seen. The Prometheus will crash into the Derelict. How hard is it to understand? Why try to come up with theories about missiles being launched from the Prometheus when it is quite obviously an escape craft??????

There seems to be a little tension on this thread for some reason.... Hey! Someone out there! Post an animated gif of that scene when the escape pod ejects from the Prometheus. I would love to see it in a loop.

"Use the brains you were given." I could say the same? Prometheus is pretty enormous sized too probably about half of the space filled by SJ ships shape. SJ ship having a lot of empty space in the middle, their Mass difference probably isnt 1:2, could be more like 1:1.5. So I would not take it as a grain of salt that Prometheus crashes itself to pieces against SJ ship. Why? Because we only see a little hole in SJ ship, Prometheus would probably rip the ship in half if it hit it to the place we see in trailer (unless the SJ ship is extremely rigid) I know the Prometheus-ramming-SJ ship is a very popular theory. But if we think storywise, it sounds bad, something Ridley Scott would probably not do. Die Hard 4 and destroying flying Helicopter with a car, anyone? We see in trailer Idris Elba have a extremely scared look on his face and red light flashing. Maybe this scene is right before SJ ship zaps Prometheus to pieces using some sort of energy weapons? I say now that we won't see Prometheus crashing itself against SJ ship in this movie. This is just a guess, but atleast I have provided some thoughts to support my theory. June 8th will show who is right. @craigamore The fact........is............your writing style...........really...hurts...........................my eyes. And lets be clear, written media will always be written media. Of course one should not always write very formal english, I really see no point in that. Those dots you use are much like the empty moments in spoken language. And you even describe it as similar phenomenon to spaces in spoken language. Well, your mild insults and deliberate choice of writing with your own standards greatly annoy, and even anger me. Dots have a important function in written language, they show that sentence changes into another. And mostly different sentences say different things. And you proceed on dropping dot-bombs in middle of sentences... I guess it's because i'm so used to reading texts with normal spacing and dot using. English isnt even my 1st language, to be certain (and no way my english is perfect). Well, im not going to go on more about your writing style. Don't be offended if I choose to skip your posts unread (especially if they contain several dot-bombs). I will be doing this to preserve peace, purely. I could ask to same, no? I don't see Prometheus crashing into SJ ship. It's more likely that we see SJ ship blow up Prometheus to pieces with some kind of weapon. Especially as we see in the trailer Idris Elba make a very surprised/scared looking face, probably just a moment before Prometheus is destroyed. Notice the red light flashing, coming from energy weapons of some sort? Also, the size of Prometheus is so great it would not leave just little smoking hole in side of SJ ship, in my opinion. Prometheus crashing itself is probably one of the most popular theories in this forum, but I think it's false. Saturday or June 8th will show which side is right (though my side appears empty, as there are already 3 people throwing mild insults or trying to annoy me) @craigamore Written media will always be written media. It doesn't always have to be very formal. Also, I tried to write discreetly and not be insulting, obviously I failed as you felt compelled to throw insults at me. That attitude that goes with your writing style + your writing style really pushes my buttons. Dots have an important function when forming sentences. @ghorgul One thing that ruins threads is when people start to get unnervey with one and other about opinions not pertaining to the topic at hand. I am not innocent, I've gotten a little cranky myself on this forum in the past. Yet I think it's best to make a conscious attempt to remember that this is not a forum for personal feelings, except when pertaining to Prometheus. Besides, if I can handle talking to HP tech support from some dude in India who can't speak English to save his life, you can handle the little idiosyncracies often seen in the way people write. If we can, let's just stay on topic and leave the emotion where it belongs......in our own heads, not on the forum. Everyone out there! I hope not. The ship dogfight thing just doesn't seem to follow the vibe they have been presenting to us. Now unless something does a 360 in the trailers presentation I don't see that happening at all. If it does happen, I am scared that the movie will be a let down to people who only really enjoy the first "Alien" film and were looking for something different then the usual sci-fi fare. I want more of a "2001" meets "Alien" vibe from this, and less James Cameron action stuff.

@Nrlfetmefan You are right :) To my defense, I must say I've tried to add to the topic more each time I have replied. And I intend to do it now too: On this other thread Shilliam Watner theorised (about the roads) that prometheus might have a energy weapon of some sort to make the road there. So maybe we could see some ship-to-ship combat, done with energy weapons à la Star Wars? The trailer seems to confirm that SJ ship emerges somewhat victorious of this duel. Unless the prometheus just got little hits and those little hits spread the burning pieces around the landscape. This could be possible too, as a ship of Prometheus' size would probably spread a lot bigger pieces and much more of them. Unless it explodes in very nice, spectacular way in Full 3D. Either way, makes me excited to see the film and the scene-to-come! @Shane I can't personally relate at all with the crashing, it seems even less probable. And Bruce Willis is Vickers. And if there is a dogfight, it probably is very short and brutal.

Lets touch on a couple of things: One, we definitely do not know whether or not the Prometheus has weapons. If its a research ship, prolly no weapons. Two, if the planet has a big temple on it, it would stand to reason that maybe it would have a raod leading up to its entrance. Walking and driving a vehicle may very well be commonplace where bi-peds are concerned. Three, (pure speculation) if you need to stop a ship and you don't have weapons, you might try and ram it with your ship...especially it everything is on the line. Thoughts?

I think the Prometheus is purposely crashed against the "spinner".

@ Nrlfetmefan Totally agree, it makes perfect sense. I can't help being a bit amused by all the wild speculations on this board :) Lasers creating roads, people mutating into big blue aliens, someone giving birth to big blue aliens, time travel and wormholes, you are all crazy you know :D

I wonder how many of us will be in the theater going "HOLY SHIT" just be cause certain scenes did not play out as we expected (or as Ridley cleverly edited the trailer to have us expect something else to happen) But there's a lot of smart people on here who will have gotten it right too. I'd love to go into the theater not knowing anything but I don't have the willpower to resist spoilers.

@humanityFTW I think I told "Rick" why many many months ago when we saw the first images from the trailer in that leaked Fox Scandal Gatey "thingy" remember?The Company is intercepting the Derelict to prevent it from reachng Earth. In it are tons of them VIALS programmed to become XENOMORPHS and treat Earth like one massive Terra Forming project, Killing everything alive and eating all the famles slowler than the males cause they are "prolly" tastier. Ya know why too I think...someone on prometheus stole some of them vials and this is their punishment being averted somehow. Got it all from one of them leaked Fake scripts, twisted it a bit to suit my needs but it makes sense to me and I have been sticking to it since day 1. Will be the first to say, "I was soooo wrong" in Vickers Voice if it turns out I have to come to Rick's house and eat crow!

I'm sorry if I insulted you @Ghorgul, but I felt the need to approach the way I prefer to write with a certain level of pride. Nrlfetmefan is right, there's no reason we can't be civil. Anywho...I pernsally wouldn't think there was air-to-air weaponry on what amounts to a corporate R&D vessel, and also, the size of that explosion seems to large to be anything but a collision; especially concerning the escape pod revelation.

But there is clearly debris from another ship falling all around the derelict as it crashes in the original trailer craigmore...what say you to that bit of flaming pie? LOL.

I agree with Nrlfetmefan Sound points he makes. Though personally I wouldnt be surprised if the Prometheus had some little-known weapons system hidden on it, considering how Weyland(company) behaves in the future. He is probably right about the road, as it seems to go under the Prometheus and continue long way to both directions (I'll have to check the pictures later today). Shilliam Watner found great point with the supposed turret in another thread: [url=http://www.prometheus-movie.com/community/forums/topic/1926&page=6]7th post on this page[/url] Basically he says that the turret could turn 360 degrees in its azimuth angle and 90 degrees in it's zenith angle. This supports the view that the SJ ship flies on horizontal orientation (which he expressed in his post), and as the turret is on the opposite side of the "Window" side (roof window of starmap/SJ room as have been speculated), If the SJ wants to fly and sit in head towards sky position, the ship will fly horizontally with turrent pointing towards ground. This would also make the ship quite frightening bomber with it's full 360/90 firing field below it. (Azimuth and Zenith are from spherical coordinate system, it's a lot easier to describe my idea using these) Actually this makes me think that the part where we see supposed emergency ejection with SJ ship in the background is just moments before SJ ship opens fire on Prometheus (SJ ship is higher than Prometheus so it could easily engage Prometheus from that position), and only little later comes the scared/surprised Idris Elba scene with that red flash. Little before/at the same time/a little after Prometheus attacks SJ ship with some sort of weapon, or emergency pod, or could even manage to cratch SJ ship, causing it to fall down. They way we see it falling would suggest it was hovering at place as it doesn't look like it has momentum any other way but down. And all this makes me think that maybe Prometheus is the one trying to run away, and not the other way around as the popular theory goes. Sry for the wall of text, ideas started to flood my head and I happened to have this forum in front of me @craigamore + everyone else Private mailed to craigamore my apologises. @Ghorgul The derelict attacking/stopping the Prometheus would actually make more sense... I think we can safely assume that humans is inferior to this race, right?. The aliens would have a much easier time figuring out the crew's intentions than them figuring out what the aliens are up to. And if the crew figure out that the aliens are a serious threat, it would already be too late... We are no match to them. But... I am afraid it is the other way around, by some heroic actions and ingenuity, the crew figure out that the aliens are a real danger and decide to crash into them to stop them from leaving the planet. And actually manage to bring down a ship far more technological advanced than their own.

I completely dissagree Slakkers, and think the Company attacking and deliberately attemtping to land lock the Derelict anywhere but Earth is what's going on here. i will be the first to admit I was wrong if that turns out to be the case.

yes, you are right and I agree...it is in a way and I never thought of it in that regard until now when you mentioned it, but I may have one thing that'll give you some hope...I am NO expert and it's just an educated guess and that's the best thing for you..because RIDLEY SCOTT is almost ALWAYS completely unpredictable! I remember thinking, and still do to this day, that the suits made him cut out a lot of that scene in Black Rain in which Andy Garcia gets his head cut off by a Samarai sword. The final scene just doesnlt look like something he approved...what i am tryng to tell you is you may still be right, and he may want me thinking the way ia m deliberatly, it's a vice of his, to get us all looking the wrong way befiore hitting us on the head wiht some awesome idea or angle we never thought of.

@Slakkers I like your way of thinking! It makes sense to me atleast. It could be possible too that the people/xenos aboard SJ ship aren't even evil, but realize what humans have let out of the Vault (with giant head) and it's containers and try to stop it from leaving by shooting Prometheus down and killing every human? Maybe the stuff in containers is so dangerous in their view that they don't want to come play a doctor, and would rather purge the danger along a barrel of a gun? Maybe big part of the plot is that both sides misunderstand each others objectives? This is actually pretty usual and normal plot development in many Hard SciFi stories. I just can't see Mr. Scott doing a SciFi movie with so obvious plot that everything is clear as a day when half of the film has been watched (as many of todays action oriented movies are). Some movies nowadays even reveal the whole plot in trailers, you then just have to concentrate on fancy action!

No, I just see it as they ram a ship into another ship. I doubt we will see much in the way of fire exchanged between either of them. Also, Live free or die hard is one of the worst films ever made. Horrible in every way.

I think what we are seeing in this latest trailer-trailer is the prometheus on a collision course with the alien ship, an escape pod is launched and then, as seen in the first official trailer, the two escapees, who by this time have landed, are running away from the crashing ship.

I agree the theory of the Prometheus crashing into the ship, i just thought it might be interesting to see ship v ship. But i guess the collision of both ships would show the crew's desperation more, which would be rather effective, i mean you don't just ram a state fo the art research ship (correct if wrong) into an alien craft or anything. @You have my sympathy It could really well go like that too. I'm counting on Prometheus firing some hidden AA-missile against SJ-ship though ^^ Saturdays trailer needs to give us more information! Plus I really think the SJ ship flying and firing red coloured energy/laser weapon and ripping Prometheus to pieces with it would look spectacular in 3D! BTW We always refer the human ship as Prometheus, but is this even certain knowledge?

All that debris, Spartacus, falling around Shaw and Vickers, I believe it comes from the Prometheus as it is completely obliterated while the derelict, being made of unkown materials likely durable beyond our understanding, remains intact as it is knocked from its trajectory.
