Ridley Scott admits to the BBC that some cuts from Prometheus were made. Though, not so much "new scenes", but instead mainly cuts of violent scenes and gore.
“The film is violent and tense but Sir Ridley – who has been an outspoken critic of the current rules of film ratings – insists he “cut as much he could to open the film to a wider audience.”‘
“It has to be about the movie, so I’ve made concessions. There’s a moment where you don’t want to harm the movie.”
“But he acknowledges its a case of simple economics and getting an 18 certificate “could be the difference of $80m or more”".

He started in commercials so...he's always been a corporate whore and he's not particularly shy about saying so. Of course he has artistic vision but he's pretty vocal about how he needs corporate money to fund it.

Funny how Fincher can manage to maintain kudos, David Lynch etc. But Ridley goes running to corporate daddy like a whiny little bitch!
He said it was "the story" that mad him want to return to this genre. The quality of the script...
Fuck me - I would have hated (or loved!) to have seen some of the previous scripts that he rejected!!!!
Truth is many of the fanboy scripts have blown away the abortion that is Sphaits/Scott and Lindeloff!

And to add:
Ridley Scott has been an idol of mine from the 70's onwards.
His legacy has now been shot to shit - Cast down to the hell that is George Lucas Syndrome.
G L S!!!

However, the movie is done and out of Scott's hands and when it comes to the eventual Blu-ray and DVD, don't expect some kind of extended, unrated or director's cut. "No, I think this is a good length," he told JoBlo when they asked him about it. "But that said, I think that now the fashion of actually putting out a couple of discs is here to stay, which will comfort you on all other kinds of conversation about how the movie was made. All you’ll really do is see extended scenes in the menu. Other than that I think this is a pretty good length, the dynamics of this are about right."
Kind of bugs me that there won't be a Director's Cut on DVD. Just, WHY?

@rep-detector
I can still see a directors cut on the cards once the DVD comes out. They wouldn't announce it now or they would loose sales.

After money is collected via the convential box office, there comes ALLWAYS on some fine day a "directors cut" to melk the fans even more.
But hey - we live in a "capitalistic, commercial world".
Each business has to GROW, GROW, GROW, make more, more, MORE profit.
Why?
Because of a system of bankings and excessive interest!
A couple of bankers long time ago installed a "money system" that leads to exponential grows of money - and also exponential grows of excessive interest. And the whole world plays that money game and no one comes to the idea to STOP and CHANGE this money system, as there are lots of better goods then collection money and never getting enough.
Money does not serve mankind - in this system mankind is slave to the money and money-systems!

"Perhaps if you'd have raised the funds yourself... FOX would be pursuing YOUR agenda... cheers!"

There will always be a directors cut...after the initial release so they can milk more money from the fans. Look at Avatar, that got released in the cinema twice...the second time with a few minutes extra! lol

Yeah, I got one thing to say about this.. Blu-Ray. Georg Lucas said he wouldn't put Star Wars on DVD and look what happened.
June 04, 2012
First there will be a standard release to DVD and Bluray, with Ridley maintaining no directors cut. Fans will buy it.
Then maybe a year later, out comes the directors cut! haha And of course, the fans will buy it.

Yep, I'm sure there will be multiple video versions, though perhaps not as many as if the film had been any good. There will be a 'deluxe'/'directors cut' version for the obsessives, but no "10th Anniversary"/"Legacy" edition. People won't care enough. In 20 years' time people will only remember this film as the one that finally laid to rest the idea that Scott was a great director. Yes, he made brilliant visual productions (Bladerunner, Alien, The Duallists), but they were always flawed films. Alien was his best work becaus eit was his simplest story. Bladerunner worked becasue Ford & Hauer gave it gravitas and, of course, because of Philip Dick's DNA running through it. Prometheus is a steaming pile of poo. Poor Fassbinder - he was brilliant, but he was surrounded by a childish, unoriginal script, terrible acting, cliched characters, and a plot tragectory that was all about squeezing into Alien's universe, pretending to do 'big questions', and trying dismally to lay the groundwork for a potential series of money-spinning sequels. Great art it wasn't. It wasn't art of any stripe.
