Prometheus isn't broken!! (totally spoiler free)

With all the mixed reviews I was seriously starting to worry that there was something wrong with this film, but don't worry its fine, everything is OK. You may love it, you may hate it, but there's nothing actually broken. It has a coherent story, internal logic, a fully functioning start middle and end. At this point I'm supposed to say "Its not perfect" or criticise some element to prove I'm evenhanded, and not raving fanboy - but screw that! Alien isn't perfect, but it is a fantastic sci-fi classic, and Prometheus has every chance of attaining the same status....not sure yet, my heads still spinning...which is great! My only advice will be to check all your baggage at the door and go into it with an open mind. If you try to workout how it fits in with the established universe as you go along, you wont be able to keep up with the (intentionally) fast pace. I saw it with four friends, and we all came out with big smiles on our faces!

Did you like the flute Mungo? Did you wonder what happened to 8 members of the 17 strong crew? In Alien I loved how we became intimately involved with the 7 different personalities of the Nostromo crew, and felt something called "character Empathy" Which characters did you become involved with in Prometheus?

Checking in baggage at the door is not something that you should have to do in a ground breaking distinct original film. That why I paid RS eleven pound to do that for me.

the high priest David, absolutely. He's very intriguing. He's the puppetmaster. And we just don't know what he thinks or wants.

Glad you enjoyed it. I'm going to go see it again in an hour to try to salvage something from it. Really felt let down by it. Lack of character empathy is unforgivable for me. David is the most realistic character in the film.

@the high priest. I have never had intimate relations with the crew of the Prometheus.

@the high priest. Indeed I did have a relationship with the crew of the Prometheus that was not appropriate , in fact it was wrong.

@The High Priest — I have not seen the film, but your anger and condescension are palpable in your response above. I'm curious (genuinely, objectively) why you feel a need to express your feelings with such vitriol? It feels to me reading this that you are ANGRY at Mungo for liking the film, and intentionally or not, you're using sarcasm to belittle Mungo's experience and attempting to rob him of his joy. Was that your intent?

@ShinobiX9X — I'm pleased to hear that. I'm already "involved with" David 8 just from the viral piece, and the mainstream critics seem universally pleased with his character in the film proper as well.

I felt no empathy for the characters in Aliens(except for BIll Paxton of course) or Alien. I find it very difficult to care for character in a sci fi film, especially since we only have 2 hours to form some sort of connection to them. You want character empathy, get hooked on Game of Thrones.

I loved it. I went in with no pre-conceptions, I trusted Ridley when he said there's no direct link to Alien, no Xenos etc. OK, some of the set pieces were cut to fast, but there were some creepy and disturbing moments... Fifield before he gets back on the ship was a great scene. Sure, there maybe plot holes, but that leaves some back story for sequels to fill in (I'm glad I didn't spend two hours being spoon fed). It seems to me that the nay sayers seem to have the loudest voice, which is a shame and why I think we should shout as loudly as possible. Prometheus II could go off in a number of directions which I have my own ideas about - but hey, I'm not a Director, so what do I know : )

I am sick to death of people who didn't like to movie highjacking topics like this. Please stick to your own dislike thread where you can vent as much as you like with your fellow haters. This part of the forum is for people who actually enjoyed the movie, and would like to discuss the merits of such. I bid you good day.
