Why all the hate? It's so strange. It's like people are treating it like an absolute piece of dirt, like it doesn't deserve to exist. They are clearly over-reacting. I understand people are entitled to their opinions and sharing them, but the constant barrage of not just negative opinions, but HATE for this film is so odd. Why did it do so wrong? What makes you so annoyed about it? Did you expect it to live up to your high super-fan boy expectations? In reality you know it was at least a semi-good film - at least! Just taking the simplest elements tells you that. But you treat it like it deserves 1/10 stars. For what reason does it deserve such bad rep? Ugh!

Spuppet: there are actually research projects on the reaction of the 'cult' to sequels, prequels and redos. The prime example being how adult people criticize the Phantom Menace for being childish and nothing like the 'real' star wars (the real star wars of course being equally childish and equally suited for children). Alot of people think they have an ownership when it comes to artists and when those people dont get what they want..... expect comparisons with ewoks or AvP. :)

Look, I feel the same way. This is a good movie, just as you'd expect it to be. Remember that a lot of people use the word 'hate' for just about anything. Most of them probably don't mean 'hate'. Hate is something you feel when a loved on is murdered or when you're extremely envious of somebody, not something you experience when you watch a movie that's below your expectations. Some might have unreasonably high expectations, just like when the Star Wars prequels came out. Apart from Jar Jar Binks and grown up Anakin, those were pretty good, and since I was born in 1991 I am not biased. I have tried to watch the old Star Wars movies but I just don't see why people think they are so great. Apart from Darth Vader and Chewbaka and Master Yoda they don't have a lot going on. People seem to compare Prometheus mostly to the original Alien, while perhaps if you compare it to Alien 3 and 4, which are in my opinion also good movies, it stands stronger.

how many more reasons do you need? people have posted their reasons for hating it over and over. if you liked it, then fine, but the majority of people who saw it didn't. sheesh! whats the big deal. just because all the fanboys are flooding rotten tomatoes with false positive reviews and logging fake accounts to boost the 'tomato ratings' isn't going to make the movie good. just deal with the fact that not everyone shares your opinion. welcome to the internet 0.o

No one did anything wrong. Could it be better? Of course it could, but NO film or studio could possibly have lived up to the lofty expectations generated by all the speculation here. We should have seen this coming from the start. The people who are so angry have done this to themselves for allowing something as trivial as a movie to have this much control over them. I don't mean to patronize anyone, but it's a simple fact. Disappointment may be inevitable, but $13 for an IMAX ticket won't kill me.

The movie was pants and I want my money back, it's blatantly obvious that Prometheus is garbage so why are people saying its so great or defending it?

Some are going to hate it some are going to love it as if its the best thing sliced bred with no flaws what so ever..... But its not all black and white..... There would be a whole spectrum of people who will have varried views on the movie..... But its each to their own and one should not let someone elses criticism put them off watching the movie, each person should just judge the movie for themselves. The problem does come that we as Humans do tend to complain more than praise... I mean hands up on here how many of us phone our ISPs or Email them to praise them for a wonderfull job....... But if they have problems if our ISP has been letting us down, we dont take long to complain.... Everyone has a different view of a movie, everyone may have different expectations on different elements... Some not happy about the lack of Alien explanation, others think it had to much... some are not going to enjoy the movie because they hate Lindelof some will love it because they love him.... I dont let any preconceptions have any effect on me, and i saw the movie and i based it on its own merits... My view is it is not as bad as some say, but its not the masterpeice that others may have seen it as... But then i am a bit critical and with Sci Fi done to death and so many movies which raised the bar so high, every Sci Fi movie has a very hard job of standing out from the crowd. Thats not that some movies are poor, its just that the president set by some movies is so high.... It will be very hard for any Sci Fi movie and not just one thats done by Ridley but anyone to match Alien, Blade Runner, 2001 and Star Wars EP4.

"@Disappointment may be inevitable, but $13 for an IMAX ticket won't kill me." Thats one of the best points i have read on here for ages..... What else people going to do... save $13 because some say its a poor movie, to go watch what? Battleship? If you lower your expectations you may end up leaving very pleased, if you raise them and end up not a fan you end up more disapointed. I dont think its right to call those who hate movie trolls... its just their view and while they may keep saying what they feel over and over. End of the day others will love the film... We should not have a debate that equals....... Hate/Dispointed with movie = Trolling kids/geeks. Love/Praise movie = rose tinted viewers... Its about each to their own.... If someone wants to debate why a certain part of the movie they feel is flawed, they should explain why but try and do so in a decent manner. Then those how liked it should then take that negative comment and explain how they felt about that said scene. And end of the day, if people dont agree then thats fine thats what life is all about. Well those who live in a democracy.

Because the movie was not very good at all. Lots of people have invested so much time on this board fantasizing over seeing the movie that they have hypnotized themselves into thinking that this movie couldn't be anything other than Citizen Kane. It's not. As for people saying that it is an intelligent sci-fi movie, it's not that, either. What it is is a pretentious and poorly-executed story riddled with head-scratching plot holes and two dimensional characters. It's not even scary. Unfortunately the only reason this movie exists is so Fox can hopefully resurrect a dead franchise. This movie had potential to be truly great given the budget, the director, and the cast. Unfortunately we wound up with a mediocre movie. It will probably do well enough because it's an Alien prequel and Ridley is directing, and the marketing has been top notch. The reviews will probably be good because, for all it's flaws, it's not as awful as the typical Hasbro movies we have become inured to. But nobody will be talking about this film 2 years from now, let alone 30. Sorry, but that's the sad truth.

I'm thinking it may be the perceived "majority" thing (and the desperate need of some rather insecure people to be seen as being in it or with it) that's at least *a* culprit, here. This is an age of almost venemous cynicism. The mythical past is revered and anything that treads near it must either be perfect or be destroyed. Kind of like venturing into the sanctum of the gods, actually. Once the defense mechanisms activate, pandemonium will inevitably ensue...

Movies are subjective, it's a fact! This is why they still keep making Final Destination films or Foreign Art house films, they appeal to different audiences. Sequences in this movie were amazing (mainly the first 30 mins) but then it went too crazy for many with exploding reanimated heads and auto operation devices and scientists treating an alien like a lost puppy...I could go on! Go back to Alien or Aliens. This type of crude eye candy moments were the things Alien 3 and Resurrection treated us to. Alien and Aliens both delivered gritty real world space adventure that was believable. This ended up selling out so it would get more bums on seats and didn't stay true to the "Alien universe and it's so called DNA". It's hated by the Alien fans not because it's not a clone but because it failed to deliver on the mystery hype and the whole "No Xenomorphs" lie. Personally I'd have like more of a subtle nod to Alien and that the initial creature hadn't come from a quick nookie session with an infected crew member.

When Ash went crazy it was disturbing and unexpected. When Bishop got ripped in half we were horrified. After David's head got ripped off and put into a bag, everyone in the cinema was laughing.
