Holloway's Tattoo (spoilers inside)

I just noticed that Holloway has a cross tattooed on his right shoulder (clearly visible in the eye worm scene). Isn't he supposed to be an atheist? Surely such an obvious contradiction of character wouldn't be accidental? Does this maybe hint that Holloway used to be religious but lost his faith after some tragedy? This could make sense if he is Shaw's opposite: she kept her faith even though her mother and father died tragically; Holloway turned his back on religion. This might be why she survives and Holloway does not. Her faith is rewarded. Am I reading too much into this? Don't tell me Logan Marshall Green has a cross tattoo so they just left it in.

I don't think it's accidental. The film is chock fully of mythology (starting with the name) and the dream sequence where we see young Shaw discuss life after death with her father, and her devotion to her cross, and all the references to a soul. They really lay it on think. Good film making doesn't have to TELL you what the film is about, it SHOWS you.

I agree HH but I thought Shaw's cross was way overused, especially in the dream sequence where we see it appear and then it disappears and springs up again being placed in a hand. Enough already, I get it! Personally I would have left the dream sequence on the cutting room floor. It would've been enough to see David accessing her dreams and revealing he did so later when Shaw is in the medical bay.

Maybe it's just a lower case "t"?

It's not a cross! when there was a profile shot of him looking in the mirror the tattoo was a T or a 'tau' with an s looking shape (possibly a letter or a flame) above it that made it look like a cross at a glance. I have been trying to find info out on the symbol and so far have only found info on the Tau, nothing on the s or flame shape directly above the tau. Or what the two symbols combine to mean. The most interesting info I could find on the tau was that the Tau also stands for Talion law - "talion, Latin lex talionis, principle developed in early Babylonian law and present in both biblical and early Roman law that criminals should receive as punishment precisely those injuries and damages they had inflicted upon their victims. Many early societies applied this “eye-for-an-eye” principle literally." http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/581485/talion Has anyone else found anything out about the tattoo?? I also found it strange that the andriod took her cross excusing it on contamination. Lots of symbology in this movie..
