What if there is no sequel?

The film has to make about 390 million dollars given its budget to be considered profitable. At the end of the day, studios do not care about a fan's desire for answers. It is all about the money. So if it turns out that the franchise ends here will you like Prometheus more, like it less, or have the same opinion of it either way?

If the unthinkable happens and there is no sequel...of course it will be tragic...but will not be a reflection of the potential of the story...just pencil pushing, money-grabbing suits who didn't make the money they wanted. We could always rage against the studio!
There will be a sequel. If everyone saw it once, that'd be enough...so get out there bigging the film up n get everyone you know in front of that screen!

If there is no sequel I will be ticked, a sequel is one thing that had me keeping an open mind. No sequel will be totally disappointing. I don't even think it would have been a bad idea if they made it a two part movie, if they did that somehow I don't know if so many would be upset about not getting the answers they wanted. Though I liked the film I don't have a lot of faith it will hold much integrity with the broad audience if it is a stand alone film with no follow-up.

I dunno Drake... I haven't seen a studio more devoted to a film like Prometheus... ever. I think this is one that Fox genuinely wants to continue. I mean, of most of Fox's films, ALIEN is by far one of, if not the most popular, successful and entertaining of them all.
I doubt they will neglect many sequels. I bet they're already planning for 2 sequels simultaneously. Haha

Not to mention, the way the film ends.. it would be such a let down if we don't get at least two more sequels. Or one sequel which runs close to 6 hours.
How about we all do our part and go see Prometheus 3 times each, and buy as much promotional material as we can. ; ) That way if profitability is the only obstacle to overcome we can help out in that way somewhat.

I'm hoping Prometheus will lead into the prequel(sequel) we had originally wanted. That's the only reason I haven't completely lost all hope after watching this movie.

Prometheus' biggest challenge will be that it will be going up against Brave in its second week of release and Madagascar 3 on opening weekend. I know it may seem silly, but without the teen crowd it has to rely on older individuals many of whom have kids which will mean they will be seeing those films. And come July 6th, the new Spiderman film releases. It also no longer has the cushion of extremely positive early reviews like it did when it opened in the UK & France (77% on rotten tomatoes compared with 92% and a 52% on metacritic) The film basically has three weeks to make at least two hundred million worldwide for it not to be considered a total flop by the studio (although it might be more than that given the massive expenses on the marketing campaign). The news might actually be worse than us not simply getting a sequel as it may send a message to studios that big-budget, serious science fiction films are no longer a profitable investment. Especially given the fact that films like Paranormal Activity 3 can make a little over two hundred million dollars on a budget of five million.

Now I'm going to go see it 50 times.

it sounds like IT WAS WRITTEN as a trilogy.
Even Scott himself has been quoted as saying, "It'll take two more films to get to Alien."
I say this, but Lindelof reckons, "Our trilogy might run concurrent to Alien/Aliens/Alien3/4/"
which sounds like a conflict right there, no wonder Lindelof offered to step away from the keyboard for Pro~ two and three.
2013 sci-fi horror novels 'Custodian' and 'Tandem' available from Amazon, B&N, iTunes etc...

Besides "Brave" you forgot "Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter" also opens on 6/19. I agree if "Prometheus" doesnt make a sizable amount of $$$ there won't be a sequel. The movie business is all about return on investment.
Fox doesn't need to invest in a risky sci-fi sequel when they have "Avatar 2" and "Avatar 3" coming in the next few years to meet the demand for the sci-fi genre.

If the sequels are written by Lindelof I have no interest in seeing them. The man is the worst kind of con artist. All he does is pose a lot of questions and then promise to give you answers in the next episode. And if you wait for him to deliver the answers what you wind up getting is completely unsatisfactory. After watching Prometheus it is abundantly clear that he has applied the LOST formula to this potential franchise and that his involvement has ruined any potential it might have had.
If, on the other hand, they hand off any sequels to a competent producer, hire a competent writer, and put a better director on the project they might be able to rescue it. You don't gain an audience by holding them hostage. You do it by presenting an interesting, original story that stands on its own and leaves people wanting more. Scott failed to accomplish this with Prometheus. He was more interested in making a trilogy than in making a single good movie and it really shows in the result.
I doubt Fox will be turning a profit on Prometheus, but if I am wrong and they make tons of cash off this flawed masterpiece they will probably still rein in the budget quite a bit for the sequel(s). They spent Terry Gilliam money on this movie and that was a huge gamble. So got to admire their guts if not their good sense in this matter.

Saw it last night and was very impressed. 10 minute preview of Spiderman looked awful, but is there to appeal to teen/date market so will make a fortune. I'm going to see Prometheus at least one more time. There was an awful lot to take on board.

To be honest its a bit of a dud making a movie for the sole purpose to set up the next one without actually making the first one interesting to start with!!
To be honest I don't really care now if we get a sequel or not...all my hopes of having a good creepy and intelligent sci fi film have been killed.
