But, that said, the question that really remains to be answered is: is it better than Avatar? Avatar is the highest grossing film of all time and also happens to be a science fiction 3d film with great visuals and a story with its fair share of plot holes. I think the film that Prometheus is really competing against is not the original Alien but against Avatar. It seems like the goal of both films is to take the audience on a journey to an alien world and make them feel like they are really there. Prometheus certainly has me more intrigued (even with its questionable story) than Avatar ever did. And I would not be honest if I did not admit that a Prometheus sequel would have me much more excited than an Avatar sequel. For those who saw both films, which did you prefer? I think comparing Promotheus to Avatar might help us to put things into perspective.

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 2:57 PM@Drakeequation Well, actually Jon Spaiths highly praised Avatar in an interview:
"At the top of Avatar, there’s something like 40 minutes of solid exposition, and they use every imaginable trick: first-person character voice-over talking about his thoughts, feelings, and backstory; throwing a new fish into an environment, so things get explained to him how it all works; we get lectures and audio and visual presentations, virtually every trick. Cameron had an extremely dense mythology, with the biology, economics, the corporate interest, and with the relationship between the military and the scientist, there was a lot to explain. Once you’ve laid it all down and the audience gets it, then the story can move along. We all kind of need that super lesson at the top".

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 2:59 PMIt is not better than Avatar, because Avatar has a full story, a confident beginning, middle and end...Avatar is more boring I think, but there is a story
Today I had a lot of time to rest and think, and narrowed down the flaws to Lindelof's horrible writing style and poor character development...
There is no professionalism from the crew, they are like a bunch of civilians taking their helmets off and screwing
These two issues are very important, and because they fail the whole movie fails Im afraid
But I liked the first 50 minutes and the visual effects

MemberOvomorphJun-02-2012 5:30 PMAvatar is a much better film. It's a great film. The simple story and strong characters are at the heart of Avatar. It's basically 'Dances with wolves' in space. it really works. In comparison Prometheus is a convoluted mess with mainly disposable characters and a story that can't make it mind up if it's an Alien prequel or a completely new film. I lay the lame squarely at Lindelof. I think he's s**t! Always worried about Prometheus the moment I found out he was involved.
