SPOILER - Why Guy Pierce?

This is not a comment about acting quality, or the quality of material given to the actors.
I initially thought that it was really strange to have Guy Pierce as the very old Weyland, when many suitably aged actors could have been selected - Christopher Plummer, for example. (His make-up reminded me of the old 'Bif' in 'Back to the Future II'.)
Could it be that in a sequel we see flashbacks to him in younger years where he is planning the mission based on some knowledge brought to his attention?
It's just a thought.

"Is it dead this time?" "I dunno, poke it with this stick and see."

There's no denying he's a good actor cy
He's come a long bloody way since he was mike in neighbours rocking the leathers and having to put up with Scott and Charlene
He was perfect for the ted talk but to have him play the same character in a move that takes place around 70 years later he does seem an odd choice were there more scenes with a young weyland perhaps that were cut during the edit or from the original script?

I am hoping , it is a stand alone film , with small clues to the " Alien " franchise
, and other fans would like a fresh perspective . The previous sequels , and the
cross overs . What is needed is a fresh story ...,.

Guy peace is a legend and it's a great peace in the film
. Might not be right but still great peace

I think its kinda like the same concept with bishop weyland, they wanna get him preped up for a prequel, or sequel.
In ALIEN he is a fairly young synthetic, and in AVP he is a grumpy old man.
Becos end of the day they are zagillionaires n it makes sense for their company to built synthetic out of them, or even so tht the film producer can cast his character to appear again n again
Additional thought, in the film vickers quoted "every king has his reign and then he dies". I think we're gonna b seeing alot Guy aka Weyland doin alot of dirty stuff to get his hands on this bioweapon!
Yoo hooo a sequel is on its way!!!

Please ! Bring on a sequel, with both Waylands , one aspect I found terrifying
in the first film , Was Crew Expendable , it is not far from the truth , not even
the CEO's are relevant ..

The only way for Weyland to be immortalised now is in android form.
There must be something to it. A TED talk viral and covering him in Prosthetics to jut make him old seem an extravagance for am actor of his calibre
BUT... would he make a good android?

I read somewhere that there is, or was going to be a deleted scene where David was communicating wit Peter Weyland in a dream which presented him in his younger years (Guy Pearce with no old man makeup on) enjoying life surrounded by women on a boat or a beach of some sort. If you look it up I'm sure you'll find this info somewhere multiple times.

Don't forget the viral campaign that Ridley and his son Luke cooked up to promote the film. Weyland's address to the TED conference is set in 2023 to help give a bit of a back-story about the character's motivation:

They'd need a younger actor to pull that off, so I guess it made sense to age him for the film.

Lyall: Deftones was correct in his post. The information he referenced can be found in an interview contained in the "Art of Prometheus" book. The interview also reveals that Max Van Sydow was considered for the part of Peter Weyland. The earlier version of the script contained a dream sequence of a young Peter Weyalnd, a scene that was later deleted from the script. However, Pearce was already under contract and thus he performed the role with makeup.
I like Pearce as an actor. Separately, when I learned that the role of Weyland could have been played by Max Van Sydow my heart broke. Talk about an actor who could have brought gravitas to the role and the film. Ugh!

"...we see flashbacks to him in younger years .."
Maybe the older Weyland has found a way of storing his dreams,,ESSENCE...so when combine with a David like 'droid...he could live and look like A YOUNGER MAN..
It occurs to me that David8 is actually acting like Peter Weyland would want to act to find a life extention(maybe immortality).
Be choicelessly aware as you move through life
