Why would the Engineers point us to a "weapons outpost" in space (via the cave drawings)? Don't make any sense.

yeah, when I was sat in the cinema and Shaw and Holloway were doing the brief - She suddenly comes out with "They Engineered us"
Milburn even asks "where did you get this info from"
She just replies "I believe"
It was exactly at this point that a giant fucking crack appeared in the movie.
I was like "Oh shit! LINDELOF!!!"
The the movie began to topple over like a giant house of cards....
bummer....

"I was like "Oh shit! LINDELOF!!!""
I think youv'e nailed it on the head. Lindork has a lot to answer for, but can't forget, for some reason Scott went along with this train wreck.

Bear in mind Weyland is at the centre of this -he states that Shaw convinced him, so he basically got his cheque book out, pretty much everyone else is there as just an employee. I agree, though, there isn't much more evidence to Shaw's theory, there is no link between the cave paintings and the 'fact' that they are our makers. It has been a popular theory for years, though, and that's where faith comes into it - a big theme in the film - 'I choose to believe'.
Further to that, I'm sure there'll be a directors cut which will elaborate on this a little more, and I think it would tell us more about Weyland and David - they obviously know more than they tell us in the film. Maybe some other evidence was found on a colony etc, seperate to Shaw's research, she just happened to have the final piece in the jigsaw? Why would he pay all that money and go all that way (while at deaths door!) if he wasn't pretty sure of what he was going to find, and as it's presented in the film, he really only has Shaw's beliefs and research to go on. Not exactly conclusive.

Some humor: maybe these weapons are the space jockey's equivalent of fire.
Like... if they could read the space jockey schoolbooks they'd see that xenomorphs are good for hunting, killing, cooking, working metal, using as solvent, ship propulsion, wireless communication... etc. Like: "Go there and have some xeno. It will make everything so much easier." And then they get there, unscrew some jar and the space jockeys go "Dudes, not like that! Ah forget it. *punches*"
To answer your question, ask yourself about the archaeological background of the main character.

The whole "ancient aliens" thing, enigmatic pyramid builds, super heavy human faces and murals of an android-like guide pointing at the stars. According to real life finds we speculate that aliens shared technology that at that time was beyond our grasp but helped us progress or motivated us to develop. Who else than our own children would we give so many perks and boosts.
