MemberOvomorphJun-06-2012 2:13 PMhave not yet seen the movie, but seen/read/reviewed every spoiler/trailer at this site as well as the net... Is there anything in this new movie that explains why the Engineers are considerably smaller than the one sitting in the chair in Alien. The Alien SJ/Eng is massive in comparison to the Eng in Prometheus.. I know Dallas or Kane says” it looks like it has grown out of it’s chair”
Also, just as a reference to plot holes, RS did not even cover the fact in Alien that Dallas, Lambert and Kane had discovered a new humanoid in the derelict ship, if fact they don’t mention the SJ in Aliens as well, just the eggs and ship..... just a thought I guess, but it would have been pretty neat if the Engineers in Prometheus was the same size as the one in Alien
I should reach the frontier in about 6 weeks. With a little luck, the network will pick me up. This is Ripley, last survivor of the Nostromo....

MemberOvomorphJun-06-2012 2:17 PMYeah, I think the people behind Prometheus weren't really concerned with continuity. I know it's a different Derelict ship and Space Jockey, but I think they changed things to fit their own movie.

MemberOvomorphJun-06-2012 2:25 PMWell i think it would be hard to find an actor tall enough for that figure, and to do it all in CGI could become "cheezy". The CGI look of the creature is much more better then on some other sci-fi-movies, but CGI is CGI, and you KNOW when it is CGI, never saw CGI which is not recognizable as CGI...

AdminPraetorianJun-06-2012 2:28 PMWell the chair IS a suit so Kane or anyone for that matter, who have no knowledge of the SJ technology would not know that it was a suit.

@Svany
I read that RS wanted to better explain the SJ/Engr in this movie, but what I have read, the Engr is briefly shown in the beginning scene and towards the end.... In some sci-fi movies such as Underworld the actors portraying the Likens wore stilts for height effect, but yeah I guess CGI would be kinda cheesy.... I would have preferred an elephant looking SJ, the Engr looks like Greek Gods from mythology imo

MemberOvomorphJun-06-2012 3:06 PMNope, no explanation whatsoever. There are no answers in this movie, only more questions that could possibly be answered in the sequels if they happen and if Lindelof stays away from the project.

MemberOvomorphJun-06-2012 5:05 PMIs it possible that Shaw manages to get into the pilot chair, in the suit, with David's help, only to be double-crossed, crash landing on LV4.., with a chest-burster coming out of her, which leaves her ship to be the derelict to be discovered by Ripley and company?

MemberOvomorphJun-18-2012 11:13 AMFelt I had to weigh in on this (albeit a week later lol).
I think one thing to be wary about is not ignoring what Ridley said he created this movie as, which was anything but a prequel, or at least a direct prequel to Alien.
It is a bit...annoying that the Engineer/SJ in Alien does appear to be considerably larger than those we saw in Prometheus, but then we don't know how long or how that ship got there. They could've been bigger in the past or could've evolved as bigger themselves. Or as previously mentioned, it could just be for the story elements and workability that they were smaller in Prometheus. Having finally seen it I do now understand what a friend said to me, in that the film answers a couple of questions but only provides more for us to theorise and salivate over.
The only thing I would say regarding Mavirek's theory is that it's unlikely that is how it happened. After all the Engineers created us, we didn't become them.
