A TV Screenwriter and The Big Screen

Self-loathing is extremely hard to cast up on the screen, especially when there is a lot of action and storytelling that needs to be put forth in a rapid manner (welcome to the movies). Unlike books which the author creates his or her own pace, screenwriters have a whole team that push their own needs and visions. I like him as a screenwriter, but he really should seek out advice and guidance when it comes to flow and continuity. I enjoyed Lost, but he worked as a team member, with input from several seasoned writers. But the fault really lies with Ridley Scott. Having a vision and having that translated into a story is part of his job. As much as I liked his movies (Alien and Bladerunner) the rest were ok. I have not watched the movie but the whispers are over powering in that certain parts failed to be fully fleshed out and others were somewhat childish, that lacked depth and true character. Areas that really needed attention were somewhat neglected, giving the audience a sense of disconnection, when certain lines of the story should have been presented with a coherent, understandable path of information woven into the overall story. Life rarely moves in a straight line, and people in general understand this, even if it is not consciously acknowledged, but movies are not real; but stories, movies are more of a visual media than intellectual. This gives them the ability to tell a story in manner different ways. An example would be Taxi Driver, it had very little dialogue, but it's visual style told most of the story. Prometheus from what I can see has a very deep and engaging visual style, but the actors on the stage seem not notice it like they should. An example would be when Shaw/David are at the doorway to the inner chamber. David 8 seemed totally unconcerned or even had an air of contempt for this alien landscape and technology. I thought that approach was ill advised, and reverence should have been the watchword at the beginning of the movie. Like Ridley build this beautiful world and then the writer grabbed some mice, put costumes on them and then released them to be filmed... So when I watch the movie, I will probably tune out most of what is being said and watch in amazement, as the Alien world comes into focus. Self hate... more of a defensive mechanism developed during his time in the industry.
