I think I'm correct in saying that in this fictional time line, according to Weyland, mankind is capable of nano technology in the first decade of the 21st century and by 2023 they've perfected that technology, soooo why can't any of the androids in the Alien or Prometheus films just simply reattach their ripped off heads? Hey it's nano tech after all (the possibilites are endless) they should be able to repair themselves to some extent. P.S. I would only trust an android as far as I can throw his head and I'm a pretty lousy thrower.

The androids in alien and prometheus dont really ever have any time to show us their repair skills or lack there of. Ash gets his head ripped off and body burned after a brief q&a. Haven't seen prometheus yet, but it sounds like davids head is rushed off pretty quick after his little incident.

Well Shaw did take his body along for the ride. No doubt she can fix him. The woman is more talented than Scully from the X-files. She's an archaeologist, can reprogram a Med pod on the fly. A literal brain surgeon telling an associate how many juelles to apply to the engineers nervous system to reanimate him. A wiz at applying sedatives that don't kill her during and following the caesarian. The woman was a one man landing party. If she had gone alone things would have turned out much better.

you can also ponder that if they have synthetic skin that is Barely Distinguishable from human skin to cover the body of an android then why the need for staples after the caesarian birth. When you consider that humans can grow a human ear on the back of a mouse something that has already been accomplished here in the real world you would assume the technology in the year prometheus is set would be able to remedy the effects of surgery less dramatically.
