after David gave the black goo to Holloway, he didnt seem interested in what happens to Holloway anymore ?
He separates from the party and does his own thing.
Was he really only after Holloway having sex wth Shaw, and how could he be sure that would happen ?

David may be more devious than you think. He may be the sole architect of destruction between the race of man & Engineers

I think David's motivations where largely unexplored. He did a lot of interesting things, and ,like you say, then paid no heed to the consequences.
By far and away the most interesting character and performance of the movie. It's a pity he wasn't a lone survivor. Now we're gonna have the adventures of archaeologist / biologist / astronaut / alien-killer 'whats her name Shaw' in spaaaaaaaaaaaaace....
mmmmmmmmm

Good points, thanks. My master theory is anyway that the androids are the true background story of that universe, as it makes perfect sense they want the humans to be eradicated.I suspect Weyland Yutani to be controlled by androids, too, in the end, and humans to be disposable as all they do is war, profit, greed, envy etc. They have lost their purpose when they made androids that were superior to them (seeing how David is the only beeing capable of reading and speaking the engineer language, thus making him the most powerful of the whole crew). And there is that little voice that tells me that David isnt "nice", we dont know where he actually guides Shaw to, as she is not in charge when david controls the ship.I bet he fulfills his job and brings her back to earth, not where SHE wants to go.

Odd, I wrote areply it didn't post.
I don't think that David simply lost interest, he was on a higher priority mission from Weyland at the time.
I think this is communicated clearly, in the scene where everyone's getting ready to go back into the SJ compound. After finding an excuse to explore by himself, (fixing the 'glitchy' probe - which just happens to be at the door of the SJ's bridge ) David doesn't just speed off, he looks into the truck, at Holloway directly, and while there's more than just the scientists on board he says "good luck Doctors" which is both insincerely said, and a piece of black humor, as he knows they're both infected.
David doesn't lose interest in them, but he's going to explore the bridge, watch a replay of the SJ mission briefing, find a sleepign SJ, and report back to Weyland, who they will prepare for 'meeting his maker' - so that's why he has no time to catch up on Holloway and Shaw.
He clearly shows interest later in a dark way "I didn't know you had it in you - poor choice of words" IF androids think very quickly, then he would have known it was inappropriate before saying it. I think he was mocking her, but also trying to keep communication open.

@ Rockey, that would make for a rather damp twist...
You could also assume that the missing five days (did you notice only two days between landing on Xmas day, and the end of all the carnage, followed by a 'log report for Jan 1, 2094) that could be Shaw getting the disembodied head to teach her how to use alien technology. She'd be a fool to trust him, but she does seem like one even how she talks to him getting off the SJ ship... considering she now knows he killed Holloway, she's rather civil to him, apart from the put down about not grasping the 'big philosophical question of "why" '

I saw another thread in which this question was answered nicely, unfortunately I can't find it again. I believe that either David had some secret agenda to birth an alien or that he took Halloway's comment that he would do anything to speak to an Engineer. The later, however, doesn't hold up too well; if the black goo he was fed would turn him into an Engineer, why is Shaw then impregnated with the xenomorph?

*took Halloway's comment that he would do anything to meet an Engineer as consent to infect him.

I take the point on board about David being on a secret mission for Weyland, but....
He clearly seems to have a seething derision for humans, even Weyland, which is barely kept beneath his calm exterior. I think it is only his programming that keeps him loyal to Weyland. WIth him out of the way we might have a chance to see a more uninhibited David. There's only the problem that he is now bodiless, and dependent on Shaw. Bummmer.

Ha, just remembered, its somewhere else on the forum also, but the next movie could be big screen LEXX. A frustrated David/790, carried around by a not so hot, lusty, Shaw/Xev Bellringer. LOL. Here's to hoping......

Holloway was the perfect specimen. He was David's least favorite person, emotionally unstable, insecure, a drunk, etc. He had to go.
Weyland most likely ordered David to find out what the black goo does and told him to further explore the cave/pyramid ruins by himself. David didn't loose interest, he was just busy. He didn't know that Shaw and Holloway were gonna have sex, her pregnancy was an unexpected bonus for him.
