I would imagine its more to do with the goo or worm. Personally I think the cobrahugger is the direct link to the xeno, not Shaws baby and the creature at the end of the film. If I'm right and it's only an assumption then the worm is the progenitor; so worm + engineer / human = xeno

The xenomorph thats "born" at the end,. has some sort of egg sack or possibly just the engineer organs thats been feeding it,. Assuming its a meant to be a egg sack,. would it carry "facehuggers" or mini "xenomorph" or eggs,. Egg > Facehugger > Lifeform (human) > Xenomorph The species exsists without a mate of the same type,. male-female,. No fertilisation but with embyro stages,. Thats some of what i'm thinkin,. nice1

I'd say it's more likely that it's nothing at all to do with it. That would then be in perfect keeping with the rest of the film and the fact that very few things seem to have a very great significance on anything else, beyond being spoken about it, or alluded in some artificially significant or dramatic manner and then left to hang in the air by the neck - never, ever, to be returned to again.

Xenomorph = Black Goo: black goo infects worms and cobras are born. Much like the dog xenomorph from 3. It always looks diffrent depending on what its gestateing in. The Black Goo seems to be xenomorph base add to other creatures stir, burst, and you have bad ass acid blood.

As for the squid in her womb... maybe thats what happens when someone whos infected with xenomorphyness has sex... the xenomorph takes the oportunity to plant some seeds and grow a face huger with those eggs. Giant face hugger!

I think the xenomorphs have been around long before this and that each one takes on the characteristics of it's host and environment. I'm not sure why people call this a proto, or first xenomorph when if I'm understanding the timeline correctly it cannot be. Not to mention the holes in the engineers chest, the murals, etc. I believe somehow the xenomorphs are the end result of the goos life cycle in one form or another.
