Prometheus' most awkward moments for the believers.

MemberOvomorphJune 07, 20121234 Views20 RepliesYou know what I mean.. you know when you really REALLY wanted Prometheus to be a classic, but things were happening onscreen which were making you angry subconciously?
1. The burp effect the engineer makes at the waterfall.
2. The engineer's face wriving on the table, oh my god that was hilarious yet scary, disappointing and awkward at the same time, what a mixture.
3. Weyland's abysmal makeup and Guy Pearce trying so hard to make him believable.
4. "It's christmas, and I want to open my presents."
5. Shaw's dream with the cheesy editing and third person filming.
6. The really out of place stationary shot of Shaw running down the hall from the engineer.
7. Anything Fifield said.

Wrong forum. Go to the negativity room where all of the birds from the same feather flock together.

Nope - no probs with any of that stuff. I just found the Captain a bit comic strippy and macho until later in the film.
I loved it all.

-Vickers randomly yelling the word "father" after they had, quite artfully, made it obvious. It wasn't even part of a sentence ffs
-The Map operator getting lost while in radio contact and with his every move being broadcast on camera and a giant 3D map. I know you wanted to leave somebody behind but this was just feeble
-Shaw stumbling in on Weyland and co and nobody asking why she was naked, covered in blood and had a 12-inch open wound on her stomach.

How about the ridiculous holes in the plot devices, like how they manage to whittle 17 down to 2, while getting in the huge facehugger? Some of the deaths of the characters make NO sense, other than to help the writers arrive at Shaw and David being the only survivors from the Prometheus.
I'll give just one example, When the away party goes into the compound, the 3D map on the Prometheus bridge has a bright yellow icon for each person, with a letter identifying who they are. Quite aside from the fact the it is Fifield who launched the red probes mapping the place, and has some form of display from them, Janek could have checked where everyone was, when he was warning the away team of the storm. How would he not notice two yellow icons still inside? Why didn't M & F simply radio for directions back to the entrance? And later, when probe 1 picks up an intermittent life form signal, (engineer in stasis, presumably) Janek asks M & F for their location... and the yellow icons with "M" & "F" are clearly visible on the map in front of Janek (thought to be fair, the ACTOR can't see that special effect, when delivering his lines).
There are others check my blooper thread...

Bioshock: "Wrong forum. Go to the negativity room where all of the birds from the same feather flock together."
Yes Elephant man, you want the forum for adults who have an attention span of longer than a few seconds, with more than two braincells to rub together.
This is posted in the "easily pleased" section.

What about the guys who were too scared to stay in the cave or investigate the "blip" suddenly being perfectly happy toying with a large alien snake.
Or when your crew are dying one-by-one and a dead guy turns up right outside nobody thinks about picking up a weapon before wandering out?
Like Hadley said, a lot of the deaths are really contrived and poorly set up. This kind of stuff should be left to "Scream"-type horror films and kept out of well written sci-fi.

Actually, I will add my input too. why not? There is so much to pick at..
1- Learned Geologist Fifield (who we can only presume must be at the top of his game, being sent on a multi billion dollar expedition that is the first of its kind - howling like a wolf?
2 - Space suits with built in bongs. (shows you who the target audience was I guess?) Maybe that is it? Everyone should have been stoned and it would have made more sense, or maybe no one would have cared to notice the huge holes in the plot and crappy script.
3 - The flute! Self explanatory....

Shaw running for her life away from the falling ship but when she trips she realizes she can just roll 3 meters sideways and be safe

Holloway: WOOOOOH BABY YEAH HAHAHA! And he takes his helmet off!? Are astronauts/scientists that stupid in the future? No matter things went to hell on that planet.
June 07, 2012
Fifield wearing a hippie-blanket and suffering from serious paranoia. And he's the geologist!? Seriously; Ridley and Damon WTF were you thinking!? And the flutes...

@wirrn yes, the worm/maggots not being picked up by the probes was extra silly. and what are they, native to the planet, or what?
just plain stupid characters and development. except David...

I googled Prometheus Lovecraft spinning in his grave just so I could find this exact rant. The ending. Absolutley destroyed the Lovecraftian theme and overall tone of Alien.
The protagonist accomplishes her life dream of finding the creators of mankind only to find out that humanity is the result of some twisted experiment, falls for a trap by said creators that nearly exterminates life on Earth, boyfriend dies of infection designed by said creators, has her sterility mocked by said creators, aborts abomination-baby, witnesses aborted abomination-baby murder a creator while escaping a similar fate, and not only remains relatively sane but is also determined to continue seeking out the creators for more answers. What. The. Fuck.
Oh and she is a God loving hard scientist. Sure why not.

@ Cameron-to-the-rescue
I find it funny that with a username like that, you claim I have an attention span of a few seconds when Cameron made a career out of catering for people with just that.
I like a long, intelligent story, I like Kubrick/Tarantino-esque tracking shots and this film didn't provide that, this film catered for those with a short attention span in my opinion which was the opposite of what I wanted.
@ Staff
I am so very sorry that I didn't like every aspect of Prometheus, I know you invested time and money into this site and want it chestbursting with positivity, but I have highlighted both my ups and downs with the film, I have not broken any rules so I find it puzzling you are using that clock analogy.
Have a good day.
