If you pay close attention, when the woman spoke to the giant about why and how, he stopped and listened, but when that damn robot opened its mouth and began to speak to him he snapped..

He might have been because of exposure to the black liquid. He may have been exposed 2000 years ago: because he went into stasis right before the onset of severe effects because two closed ranged riffle blasts didn't faze him (he is flesh and blood after all) even so, he was surely exposed after his ship crashed after the colision with the prometheus: because the pilot seat was conveniently placed in the middle of thousands of freaking viles of the black liquid, which were seemeingly loosly held and unsecured. He could easily have been exposed after the crash caused viles to leak. Because he runs to the ejected piece of the prometheus without a helmet, breathing the atmosphere like Dr. Holloway did after he fully transformed into a murderous zomby. because when he attacked Shaw his face was messed up, like Dr. Holloways before being burned by Vickers was.
