Glass Pod.....again

Who built and why?
Might sound a silly question.......thinking its for extracting organisms from human bodies/
But how do they know they will need such a device when installed on Prometheus?
Think about it for a minute.
If its for human birth, why dont they have babies the old fashioned way?
Ill tell you why.....because when Prometheus leaves earth.....they already know what their in for!

because having babies the "natural" was is disgusting and painful and maybe in the future they realize a c section is safer and women don't have to tear from their V to their A anymore.
im assuming that pod is programmed for many surgeries. appendix's can burst at any time and need to be removed, maybe someone is impaled or shot and needs something removed, amputations, cancer and other growths and abnormalities, so on.
my father had cancer and had it removed with a robotic surgical device, a doctor operates it but maybe that pod is the same thing but so much more advanced it doesn't need a human to fully operate its movements.

just like any successful corp. they are covering their ass. Look through Weyland websites under timeline, and any technology that appears in trailers so far has a patent # and explanation.

I think belladonna is right on with this one. Its similar to a thought that I've had about us having technology like this in our homes in the future. Like X-ray machines, heart monitors, etc. I just think we'll be more in tune, and more in control of our health.

In the Weyland Time Line there is a Medpod 720i From the Weyland Industries Timeline: "Weyland Industries earns patent number 16,572,092 for Method and Apparatus for the first fully-automated diagnosis and surgical station.
And BM has already given us the pictures of the creature being birthed from Shaw and her stitches from the 'C section'.....

Sooooo, here we have a extract from the Time Line. ie. " ... first fully-automated diagnosis and surgical station."
Yet, in 'Alien' the scanner that scans (a redundancy, I know!) Kane, seems to be nothing more than a advanced X-ray machine!
More proof that this is distancing itself from the original franchise.
(This machine can do an automated c-section, but decades later it can't say "Fuck, this guy has something growing it his stomach!!! AAARRGGGHHHH!!!!!!":

Not really..
The timelines states the first dozen have been made with THOUSANDS more on back order or something to that effect.
The Nostromo when we see it 37 years later, was already over 2 decades old I think they mention??... And its a cargo hauler... It could just be that they NEVER got around to having this NEW upgraded med station installed on Nostromo... afterall, they are just lowly "truckers".
April 05, 2012
its already been said that everything is more advanced for prometheus becauce it is corp funded with way more money and the nostromo was just the equivilant of truckers in space.
everything on the nostromo was less exspensive and probably even older then the prometheus stuff.
just think of prometheus as a nip/tuck hospital in hollywood and the nostromo as a free clinic in detroit.

CanadaPhil: I nearly had ya mistaken for CanadaBob! (sorry bout that!)
I dunn by it for a second
Are you alls tellin me that Ash was put on that lomg-hauler because the company knew that the Nostromo was headed in that there direction.?"
April 05, 2012
Im just going to tell you that 33 years ago Ridley and EVERYONE involved with that original movie NEVER thought that they would be having to come up with an ENTIRE UNIVERSE of backstories and 2 century long timelines in order to explain virtually every freaking little element in what they thought was a "one off" 1979 movie.
For anyone who was not actually alive back then, the current mindset that movies must somehow have TRILOGY and PENTALOGY story arcs did NOT EVEN EXIST in Hollywood.
So everyone just needs to cut Ridley and crew some slack. Its 2012 for cryin out loud.
Do you want them to put Commodore PET's or Apple II's with text based 40 column green monochrome monitors on the bridge?
Of course not. Who would pay to see that? The audience would ridicule the production if they went retro 70's.
April 05, 2012
I think the general idea is that a lot of surgeries will likely be performed by machines like this in the future. The pod could be no more exotic than an x-ray machine is today.
April 05, 2012
And I agree with Canada Phil. I want a new movie with a new story, new characters, some new aliens, and an interesting look.

The way children are birthed in hospitals isn't natural. Lying on your back is not an advantageous position. It's fighting gravity, it requires more strain. I've seen studies that a squatting position is the most natural and least painful way of delivering.
With the device in the movie, anyone who knows how to power on the machine and enter commands can have surgery done on themselves. No waiting room.
