Prometheus was too short

Did Fox fix the film duration or did RS? I believe it should have been longer – see how much at the bottom of this post. The enigmatic/fascinating prologue was a little too scant. There are stills from production that show a very old tall hooded humanoid standing on a rocky plateau holding the very phial of stuff that the ‘suicide’ engineer takes above the waterfall. He is seen to ‘bless’ the engineer before handing the phial over. His massive saucer craft is hovering in the background. Whether this being is biologically related to the engineer is debatable but he is definitely behaving god-like. This was an opportunity to clarify the intro to some extent, at the same time show more of the incredible landscape thereabouts. EXTRA TIME 5mins It didn’t seem completely clear how LV233 was the planetoid they were looking for and having found it there was no surveying (again an opportunity for spectacular/alien landscape shots) of it to establish an interesting place to land – Prothemeus seemed to find the temples by accident. A little explaining and surveying – EXTRA TIME 6 mins. Having landed there was no discussion (apart from Vickers stern warning) about what to explore (there were many temples) and how to do it – they just took off to the first temple. This was to simplistic and would have been better to have a little time preparing the exploration. EXTRA TIME 4 mins. During the action packed session(s) that followed – communications between the crew members was not always clear and decisions were being made off the cuff. This was largely due to the number of discoveries they were making and the nasty nature of them. Perhaps realistically this is how humans would react but I feel in retrospect that some of it could have been slowed down a little to allow the audience a little extra thinking time. EXTRA TIME 6 mins. The ending was very rushed again, I was not always clear (or I can’t remember easily) where things were happening. The overall pace was about right to get to the climax but it would have been great to see where David and Shaw went to catch their ship. The xeno birth should have been cut unless it is a solid hook into the possible sequel. EXTRA TIME 3 mins That totals 24 minutes – I could have sat through another hour I reckon – so why was the film not given more space to breathe – the plot deserves it.
