I couldn't help wonder if there actually was a point of any real value or whether this wasn't just some false, assumed depth that Prometheus hoped to borrow in this way.
Anyhow, it's a very explicit reprise of something David says very early in the film, where he quotes from LOA.
Weyland is paraphrasing David with: "There is nothing".
David had earlier quoted [Feisal], with:
"There is nothing in the desert. No man needs nothing".
