MemberOvomorphJun-09-2012 12:24 PMI knew the song but had no idea who preformed it until I saw the film. Funny, a lot of people act like they knew who he was before that joke and I doubt it in 95% of cases.
Still think it's an odd-ass reference, just like Vickers did. I did find it funny. Both times I saw the film it seemed to fly right over the audiences head though.

The Captain was sitting there talking to Vickers will playing an ancient instrument, reminiscing about something, and making references to the past owner. It followed that he used some kind of obscure song reference to complete the mood. Elba was great.

I thought it was bit cheese myself, but hey, it must have a reason for the writers. I would be willing to make a bet that the Weyland/Vickers father/daughter "surprise" came from Lindelof since he has said he is a big sic-fi fan. i can see a Star Wars nod there...
