Misplaced Score?

Did anyone else think that the musical score was entirely misplaced? It sounded like Star Trek mixed with themes from Indiana Jones and Star Wars. It was way to majestic to me. The trailer had amazing music... what happened to that intensity and drama? The same theme from the opening sequence was what I heard during the majority of the film. I was certainly disappointed. Alien, Aliens and Alien 3 all had MUCH better musical scores that elevated those films. I felt the score for Prometheus was uninspired, generic and misplaced. Anyone else feel the same way?

absolutely! it was better the second viewing, but you're right in that it was nearly same music all movie. there were a couple brief 'Aliens-esque' notes but they were few and far between. Trailer music and horns were sorely missed in film

I saw it two days in a row... both times I was completely underwhelmed. I really missed those musical moments that were so captivating and PERFECTLY placed in the Alien franchise. So weird that the musical score ended up so... bright and happy. I will say this though... I love how gruesome the ending was and how immediately after that scene we get a very happy and playful classical number for the credits. That was entertaining for me. Reminded me of the brain scene from Hannibal.

I actually thoroughly enjoyed the soundtrack for Prometheus. I've been listening to the tracks even before the release of the film. A lot of small orchestral flourishes from Jerry Goldsmith's and Elliot Goldenthals scores. I feel like the score really embodied the essence of the film. It was about discovery and learning. The Star Treky type 2001 style of the soundtrack your saying kind of relates to how Prometheus is a adventurous discovery of film. Yet dark and twisted. Marc Streitenfeld executed the musical score perfectly. I loved it. Not just because Prometheus was a fantastic film but because it was appropriate for this type of film.

me too, just did that again right now, especially like the 4th track "LIFE", that everyone says sounds like it's from star trek. I remember thinking during the film it has aDS9 like quality to it yet it is, was very appropriate I think.

I too found the soundtrack a bit lacking.
