Engineer Factions

Alot of discussions r assuming that the engineers act entierly uniformly. There could be different factions of the engineers with opposing ideals and goals. Some may want Earth destroyed, some want to preserve it. Just a thought.

I can wholly agree with this. As I'd said on one topic, I wonder if the ships we've seen in the movie represent the faction, tribe, group, or classification of engineer. The engineers the Prometheus crew bump into is definitely one of hostility, or science/military group, flying their Juggernauts with bioweapons equipped for genocide or battle. The inside of their ship is cold, dark, with a dismal and lifeless, almost ominous ambience, right along with the biosuits they adorn. While our sacrifice engineer, even from just glancing at his grey/white garb and the saucer ship that dropped him off on Earth, seems more aesthetically pleasing, possibly representing a more friendly, dignified sect of engineer.

Good point. The human species is divided into opposing groups (nations and religions) with different ways of life which often fight each other. Why wouldn't another intelligent species have the same kind of divisions? LV-223 shows that the Engineers have developed and stockpiled huge supplies of dangerous weapons, even going so far as to establish a base on a planet far from home so they can do so safely. Rather than going to all that trouble to wipe out other, technologically-inferior species, perhaps they're in an arms race with others of their own kind.

This was my first thought. I think they are representative of angels and demons two factions who have different beliefs. Jesus died 2000 years ago essentially giving us access to heaven. Maybe some engineers like "satan" were upset with how much god was liking this new form, i.e, humans. Two, the engineers appear to look different one wearing an ominous suit that seems to be apart of him, advanced armor maybe unlike our monk looking engineer in the beginning (dropped in a ship much larger than a juggernaut). Ridley said he always liked the idea of aliens in paradise, but pardise would not be what we think. Just like our creators were not what Shaw was hoping for. He is bringing Giger's work to like which deals alot with hell.

@Ares Intersting thought. Theres a great thread ab Mythology and Sumerians. I think it is a rough basis for this plot. Jesus died 2000 years ago essentially giving us access to heaven. -Did everyone that died b4 the existence of Jesus go to Hell?

Yes, Kingme look up Atrahasis I believe its called very similar to our opening to prometheus and ties to Greek mythology (inspired by persian religion). I was just using Christianity as an example, but the religions give us clues about what is going on. Christianity just gives us our most recent tie, it is no coincidence we were scheduled to die (maybe) 2000 years ago. Ridley is just not pulling stuff out.

Other than being raised Christian I am not Christian, but yes I believe some fundamentalist groups believe people did not have access to heaven before Jesus. I also think many Catholic's believe in purgatory, and there basic thought is nobody has gained access to heaven until the second coming of Christ (which has not happened may be where prometheus is going). This is summarized and not the thoughts of every protestent or Catholic.

I agree that there are 2 different factions, but I also read somewhere where someone proposed that those arent bio suits that the "bad" engineers are wearing, but that they have been "corrupted" by alien dna, or that they have modified their own dna with alien dna. I know that today new pictures of the engineers close up as well as the "elder" photo were posted online, take a close look, that "suit" is part of him, look at the hands and neck.

I can sort of agree with the factions but the only reason the sacrifice Engineer wasn't wearing a suit was because Ridley didn't want to spoil that it was an engineer right from the start of the movie.
