Did Farfield have a Plan?

I suspect and I hope that if there is a Directors cut we might found out a little more about him. What puzzles me is why he returned to the Prometheus and then turns psycho. Was there another agenda other than to just go on a killing spree.

It was Fifield actually. And he doesn't "turn psycho", he's been infected with the ampule goo, hence being able to survive with a massive hole in his helmet.

Apologies for the name cock up there folks.
Back to the point I was trying to get at, which is although he's been infected, its obviously caused him to act the way he does. So if there was a a state of mind as such, was there more to it than just killing. I not convinced it was just that he had gone mental. However that's just my opinion. Just wondered if anyone might be of the same opinion and have any ideas on it.

Well, he was a grumpy guy to start with, but he seemed to mellow after a while.
If you notice that he THREE TIMES is rude to Milburn without provocation.
1. On first meeting "I'm not here to be your friend
2. In the Truck on the way to first explore the compound, Milburn gets in and sits facing Fifield. Without saying anything, and with a look of displeasure Fifield shifts up to another seat.
3. When they see liquid water, despite the temperature being well below zero, and Milburn makes light hearted joke, that it's martian piss, Fifield jumps on him in a nasty tone "Is that your scientific opinion, mr biologist?"
and he is rude to Shaw during the briefing, and gets right in her face with his excuse to leave when he gets freaked out about the "gigantic dead body"
however when he asks who else is going, he only looks at one person specifically, and that's Milburn. They do a bit of male bonding by trading mutual mild insults (doesn't share the weed though. - he could have - if you recall, in the Temple / Black Goo Factory there was breathable air.)
I think Fifields change into a zombie ninja killer probably had very little to do with his personality unless you think the black stuff has some spiritual psychoreactive characteristic that picks up on bad feelings ? And I sincerely hope that I haven't stumbled on a plot line there... although I can imagine how they would fit it in with the entry of humans causing 'a change in the atmosphere' in the room... ugh.

@ Hadley's Hope
It's that animosity that makes me feels that if there is a Directors Cut, we might get to find out. If you remember when Vickers introduces herself, she mentions that some of the crew had been with her before. I'm wondering if Fifield would have been the expert leading expeditions and was'nt happy about losing his status. A pure case of sour grapes perhaps.
I like your view on the change in atmosphere.

'Well, he was a grumpy guy to start with...'
Hahahaha! That made me laugh. 'Grumpy' makes him sound almost inoffensive. Rather than a mohawked nutcase with tattoos on his head.
But yeah...the grumpiness isn't explained. I doubt a directors cut would explain it either? Unless there's a prologue called 'Fifield: the first 46 years'.
Maybe he had a run in with a biologist from Texas?
