All style no substance sounds familiar

All style no substance reviews seem to be haunting another classic Ridley Scott film. That was the general feeling amongst critics and some fans upon the release of both Alien and Blade Runner as well as other Scott films which were later considered great films. It's obvious the same thing is happening here with Prometheus. I started this thread because another member and I were having a discussion thru pm where he brought up many thoughts on the deeper subtexts in the film which he states are quite obvious and rightly so in some cases. There is so much more to this film that meets the eye. THAT is the problem. Just like Alien and Blade Runner, the film is SO BREATHTAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL that people don't notice the depth of the film. Hopefully, my friend as well as others will come and post theirt ideas on the complexity of the film here. This thread is not here to try and change anyone's mind. However, I think it will open the eyes of lovers of the film wider so that they aren't blinded by the visuals of the film like so many seem to be. Also, I know people who don't like the film will come in here and express their opinion. That is their right. But please don't let this discourage those of you who loved the film from posting. Ignore the one's who aren't saying anything and have a healthy debate with the ones who are. Thoughts?

I totally agree with you, man. This is the first film i went to see in the theaters twice since i was a kid. I loved the fact that there are so many unanswered questions. That's what makes this so much more than an ALIEN prequel. And since it seems like you have an open mind and seem to like the film as much as i do, i have so many questions but i will ask 2 for now. 1. Do you think David knew what the Engineers were up to after he touched the goo on the wall and saw the green code inside of it? after he touched he acted alot stranger than he was acting. I base this on his actions and just the way the humans treated him like an outsider. I think he was trying to finish what they started. He knew they were going to earth to destroy and was going to let them. 2. Do think the Engineers on LV223 were somewhat of a Rogue group of Engineers? The one at the end looked like he was Bio Mechanical. The one in the beginning was not and just came off as a peaceful being. Plus they had a totally different ship.

There is so much more to this film that meets the eye. THAT is the problem. Just like Alien and Blade Runner, the film is SO BREATHTAKINGLY BEAUTIFUL that people don't notice the depth of the film. I think you've hit the nail on the head here. Nothing in a Ridley Scott film is just accidental. Alien had subtexts that took repeated viewings to notice. Having seen Prometheus twice, I see (I think) far more religious references in it than are apparent at first sight. No doubt more nuances will become apparent over time. This is the guy who made Blade Runner. I don't think he's capable of producing a superficial film.

What would we do without onine spell checkers and mistake pointer-outers? I'm soooooo glad that people like you, jdax, have the time in life to stop and make a post pointing out that there is a mistake in my post. I mean seriously, what would we do without these people? Their lives are SO meaningful. Unfortunately, jadax, the letter "t" is right next to the letter "r" on a keyboard. Sometimes people accidentally hit keys while typing in case you didn't know. But thank god or engineers or whatever that there are plenty of great people like you to point these things out. And thanks for contributing something so pertinent to the topic of this thread.

Moving on... @Son of Kane...To answer your questions I think there is a chance that David knew what was going on. However why do you think he would warn Shaw the Engineer was coming? He knew there were other juggs that the Engineer could fly to earth to carry out his mission. If he would have just stayed quiet and not told Shaw then the Engineer would have been able to carry out the plan. I suppose he didn't want to spend his existence as a bodyless head in that ship. Maybe he warned Shaw simply so she would come get him, hopefully take him with and fix him. David will obviously be explored deeply in the sequels. I think that the Engineers were created by another race and are rouge as a whole. I think they have the same attitude to their makers as David does to us.
