Prometheus and Watchmen

Both movies seem to have that polarizing effect on people where many are divided along strict "it's crap" vs "it's a masterpiece" lines. Watchmen made 55 million dollars in its opening weekend which also somewhat mirrors Prometheus' 50 million dollar opening. Both are rated R films that debuted with an already established fan base as Watchmen was based on a beloved graphic novel and Prometheus was set in the already well established Alien universe. For Watchmen, the R rating also came with a great deal of controversy as the studio was afraid to take a big financial hit with a superhero film that excluded the teen crowd. Like Prometheus, Watchmen was a gorgeous movie that left many complaining about the pacing of the film and the editing choices made by the director. Watchmen, like Prometheus, was a movie that required the audience to think about the greater implications inherent in the actions of its characters and the conflicts within the story. While I personally do not see this in Prometheus, many fans do and so I must chalk it up to the fact that I am simply not engaging with the material on the same level as they are. I can understand this, as many of the people I know simply could not "see" in Watchmen the same genius I saw. Unfortunately, Watchmen went down as a flop in the film world because it failed to generate a significant box office gross. Now, I do not know if this will ultimately be true for Prometheus but, as of right now, the indications are there that this might happen. For those who have seen both films, do you think that Prometheus may go down as the most polarizing film since Watchmen?
I should also note that both films feature muscular god-like bald blue humanoids that have the power to create and destroy life.
