MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 1:52 PMBack and forth email interview here.
Pretty cool. Lindeloff states that there was a translation for David talking to the Engineer and says he talks about it in the dvd commentary.
I'm sure there are people here that know that but I didn't.

WhyDontTheyFreezeHim
MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 2:22 PMIm really glad they didnt add subtitles but it will be interesting to know what he said to him. Maybe he simply said exactly what Weyland told him to say, like Fassbender mentioned.
The engineer was probably just pissed at seeing all those abominations around him after a 2000 year sleep.

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 2:40 PMHe said something like this....in my humble worthless opinion
We have the goo and we can use it just like you can...I will help you if you help me. If not, we will use the goo as we see fit
The Engineers thoughts...I have to exterminate these people and their planet and should have already done so case in point..
We know the rest...he moves with a vengeance after that....
FINAL THOUGHT: He who has the goo rules

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 2:07 PMI would like to know but I think that was the only way to go in the film. It really would have sucked to have subtitles or have it explained. I'm sure we'll find out more...Hopefully

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 2:09 PMfassbender stated in an interview that there was a translation of the text for him and David basically said to the engineer what weyland had told him to
i though it not having subtitles sucked and another annoyance to add to the list.

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 2:14 PMI actually liked that it didn't have subtitles. It was a very human thing to suggest that he told the Engineer what Weyland did, and obviously it backfired. If we had subtitles it takes a little bit of the mystery out of it. There are some things that just don't need a "smoking gun" if you will. Having everything sppon-fed to you diminishes your ability to think critically for yourself and to draw your own conclusions.

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 2:15 PMhe asked him if he could make weyland immortal.
i mean what a joke. You make THE greatest discovery in the history of mankind and dont even attempt to make friends before making some requests. It was just dumb and weyland shouldn't be that stupid and nor should the story.
the whole scen really jarred me and pissed me right off. like a stupid b movie
It would have had much more impact if the humans did all the right things in a first contact scenario but the space jockey still went berserk on them. then we know they really dont like us :)

Forever War
MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 2:16 PMAll I needed to know about what David said was answered by the Engineer.

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 2:19 PMI'm working on it.
My current best guess is:
"I sympathize with why you had it in your heart to kill them before."
or perhaps just
"I feel I know why your heart (was telling you) to kill them before."
That's why he then smiled when the Engineer touched his head. David feels that the Engineers are superior to humans; and he feels that he is too and that the Engineer was going to recognize that. But, what the Engineer actually recognized was that David is full of Human DNA (in his programming), even though he is not a biotic.
I'm only guessing, but it's an informed guess based on the PIE roots in what he said.

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 2:21 PMInteresting bit about whether or not the Engineers know who their creators are. Sounds like Lindelof promoting one of his damn game-changers.
As far as what david said, I'm with Forever War.

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 2:20 PMVery cool that Damon hints that they HATE us for a specific reason that was hinted at "within the goalposts of the film", which, IMHO, HAS to be the "2000 years ago" deal...
It's sounding more and more like ol' J.C. himself was an Engineer...religious zealots, SCREAM NOW! Then relax---it's only a movie franchise, people!

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 2:40 PMYeah, no subtitles! Some things are better left alone. Does anyone want subtitles to the mysterious "voice" in the deleted Alien transmission? We all think it was a voice. What if it wasn't ? Well, I would prefer to think it was.
Whatever David said is like that. Just leave it alone.
Which brings up the larger problem of why some are having issues with Prometheus. I'm sure many of us imagined we were going to find out who the LV 426 space jockey is, where he was going, and why? What happened, etc?
Well, I'm glad RS didn't touch that one. We'll never look at the Mona Lisa in the same way once we discover that Leonardo painted his own face as "hers."

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 3:33 PMI think the answer is DEAD SIMPLE!
As people "think to much", they thought that the engineer talks some "ancient" language.
What they did not know..
He was a racist and he votes vor republics.
And as he heard these arab words he thought "..AHh - TERRORISTS..".
They should have better asked him in english, believe me!

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 3:39 PMApparently Jesus Christ was sent to Earth as an emissary on behalf of the Engineers. He was sent as a last chance for us to redeem ourselves as a species, since the Engineers had begun to regret creating us as they saw us heading down the wrong path. And guess what? We crucified him, which basically proved their point. That's why the Engineers are angry with us and that's why they decided to wipe us out (but of course they lost control of the outpost and were unable to depart for Earth, leaving us to continue to live and evolve). We had our chance, but we can't learn to live together in peace without mindless and nonsensical fighting. And 2000 years ago would fit in with that time period.

spacyfreak
MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 3:49 PMLindelof-Swindelof also mentioned, that the REASON, why they hate mankind, is a hint in prometheus.
The only hint i can find is the "TWO THOUSAND YEAR" thing.
What happened 2000 years ago?
Anyone?
Guess what:
a. Engineers did not like the outfit of the romanians`?
b. Enginners did not like the music of the romanians?
c. Enginners did not like that mankind killed Jesus, who was an ENGINEER

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 4:10 PM@spacyfreak...If you're talking about what Lindeloff said in that interview he said that it's hinted at in the "goal post" of Prometheus which I would think means the end of the film. And I think he's talking about when David said "to create you must first destroy" or whatever the line was.

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 4:31 PMWhat I don't buy about the whole "going to kill everyone 2000 years ago but never got arround do it because half a dozen SJs got killed" thing is: WHY DIDN'T ANY OTHER SJs TRIED TO DO IT AGAIN?!?!?!
The had the time, didn't they? I mean, we know they like taking extra-long naps, but come on...
I'm not buying the whole "dead race" thing here. But I guess we'll see!
Anyway, thoughts on Prometheus 2 time frame? We could start a cool new timer like the one we had here before :)
"Prometheus 2 opens in 3 years, 11 months, 12:49:35"

MemberOvomorphJun-11-2012 5:51 PM@Couchjockey...I'll BET we see P.2 within the next 2 years...Count on it...
