I'm thinking how the black liquid, DNA and the passing of liquid may have played a part here. Holloway ingested the black liquid from the drink served to him. Went on to have sex with Shaw and voila - Cuddles was born, the engineer was "facehugged" and the proto xeno/deacon was born Now maybe the plan with the liquid was to taint the water supplies with it to create this on a much larger scale - which is the only other logical way that proto xeno/deacon could be conceived surely? They would then harvest their creations and try to create the proto/deacon from therein? Was it just history repeating itself from the sacrifice scene at the top of the film?

have the same theory. i reckon the space jockeys need us humans cause we can procreate and have 2 genders and perhaps even if only in theory, the engineers are genderless and can´t reproduce themselfs. so they cannot create cuddles on their own to create the xeno they need or even praise. it´s a nice touch that only through humans, they can get what they seek most. we are just hosts for something much bigger in life. atleast in ridleys universe xD

fell asleep is a good choice of words considering the one was in hypersleep for 2000 years hahaha. i believe they seeded life, left a message to find them when they are technologized enough, to then finish the job and use us for the xenos. on the other hand it could also be that they just left something back as a test, so that when there siblings are too clever and come to close to them, that they then destroy them. so we got too greedy towards that invented artificial life like they do and that can now communicate with them. that is scary since they could overrun them and then kills them all xD
