Original Fifield or the final version on film - which do you prefer?

If you've not seen it yet - or completely missed it - new images including the original look for Fifield's later cut form have appeared in Cinefex, and posted here: http://www.prometheus-movie.com/news/246 So what's everyone's thoughts on this decision? did we end up with a better mutation, something that didn't give in to looking too near to xeno DNA too soon in the film? Or do you think that the original would have made a far more interesting inclusion and further progress the storyline and the role of the black liquid? Do we wish we had seen this played out: We may do in the Blu-ray yet perhaps?

It's hard to say which wouldv'e worked better for me. I wasn't disappointed or anything wit hthe chosen version...in fact, it was quite creepy. I'm not sure the more exotic version wouldv'e made me feel that way. However, it might have theories more plausible for the purpose/effects of the black goo. At the end of the day, the mutation chosen for the movie didn't take anything away from the movie, so I'm ok with it.

I've come to the opinion that just about any and every thing that was designed and omitted, or designed and superceded by another version that was filmed, or designed, filmed and then cut from the film - was actually better than anything that eventually appeared in the film, or was left in the film. There again, given the way the film was finally Edited, what Earthly difference did it end up making which version of Fifield they used, or what version of several other elements, for that matter? For some significant sequences, almost the only reason we know what anything looked like, what may have happened, or practically have one clue that anything happened at all - is because of endless stills and super-slow gifs, before and after the event.

I prefer the other version (the real monster) The DNA is somewhat exaggerated IMO because this version of Fifield is not too much like a Xeno; actually is a creature with elongated arms and a head something alien, but not much. My personal conclusion is that it was a very bad choice.

I have issue #1 of CineFex... I thought no one actually bought those. Thanks so much for sharing. I like both Fifield, but the original does have the creep factor but loses some of the scary factor too...LOL like a big Gumby... Thanks again for reminding me about CineFex, I just went to their website to order some back issues...

I hated that scene. At the point of the film, I was already quite annoyed with the way the story was playing out and the idiot characters, so when he appeared looking as he did, it furthered my annoyance. The original with a bit more, "flair" would have been an improvement. I am going to further my complaint to adding previous additional scenes with the security teams having some sort of character development, SO I GAVE TWO BITS of SH*T ABOUT THEM BEING SLAUGHTERED. Yeah, not a big fan of the film Fifield.

I found it disappointing - why this dumb type came back to prometheus? Why they open the door without checking before "what" is there waiting to come in, as before some people died horrible? Plus - that action scene was so rushed up i was not able to follow. Hmm... frustrating...

... @lindelost I agree, I would have peeked into the ship's monitor and said "What the hell is FiField all folded up for, I didn't know the Circus was in town. Guys do not open that bay door until we find out what that thing is..." @Le_Chien Yes at that point I was watching the movie for the effects and not so much the story... I was pissed off by the idiocy of the crew.

Why who bash the movie have an account not older than a week ?? I prefer everything more exotic ... so i will like to see the scene with the totally mutated Fifield ( also there is that missing scene with Fifield "raised" by something )

Does this bring up one inconsistency? The black goo that - we assume - transformed the worms into the Hammerpede you would have thought would mutate Fifield akin to the original, but it shows a lot less mutation that expected. More a transformation in the demeanour of Fifield as opposed to full physical appearance expected. It does note however that Scott did not want a 'Monster' as such. Happy medium in the end?

You know, I wish they had gone ahead with the original concept - of the half-Alien mutated version. The version they did go with looked.. not as scary I think. The more mutation the better!

I'm not really sure. I think I'd have to see both in action a little more. I know I really like the pics in the Art of the Film book of the actual sculpture with the more Alien Fifield where his head is really filling up his helmet. You can see his teeth kind of on the underside of his head like where his chin would be. One thing that really bugged me was when his legs were folded up over him then all the sudden he was standing up normally. It looked like there was no transition to get his legs back in the normal position to be able to stand up that way. Not sure if it was a bad edit, lack of filming or a mess up because they decided to use that version at the last minute. I do know that Scott always wanted something practical to film with the actors that would later be filled in with cg. Seems they filmed Fifield with the make up and were going to decide later. It seems that they did that a lot with this film which will make for a truly great experience on blu-ray. Like Kindom of Heaven on steroids!

BTW, I haven't got to the Fifield section of the Cinefex article so I don't know if they explain anything in regards to the choice to go with the pratical fx. I will let you guys know soon. Scott has said that he thought it would be more scary if Fifield was more recognizable and not so alien.

I LOVE this version! Not that I am invalidating toxic avenger Fifield cause that was cool too. But I have to say that this is very very creepy and just gives this scene its due. But that's me. I also think that Tyler Perry movies are for those that have no taste and want to keep the issue of stereotyping fortified in our society. Take that Tyler Perry!

Just my opinion here but: As far as I can remember, he fell into the black goo, which melted his helmet, assuming now that this caused it to absorb into his skin. Now that would explain why he had a different reaction (turning into a "zombie" of sorts), then all the past victims in the series who had different reactions with the goo, facehuggers, etc... And I also strongly believe that the quick scene where his legs are over his head is a nod to this deleted scene from the original Alien. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eR5jYeIMBKk And I'm not alone in this particular part of the theory. I've recently watched AlEN, ALIENS, ALIEN 3, and ALIEN RESURRECTION and there are plenty of references to those movies in PROMETHEUS, you just have to know what you're looking for. Also there is a discussion on the link between PROMETHEUS and the above mentioned ALIEN movies (as far as "that scene, or what he/she just said seems familiar".) But I'm not sure if it's on this site or the www.prometheusforum.net site, I can't remember.
