Oh Prometheus

The movie started off with strong with some great elements, but, in my opinion, really lost it all once the ship landed on LV-223. It felt like once the ship landed that there was no story left, just a series of unfortunate events the filmmakers thought would be cool cut with poor character development in between.
What it lacks is consequence or substance to the events that happen to characters. If this is a science vessel, why would they not put on the HASMATS and take samples of both Fifield and Holloway to research and understand what was wrong with them? I mean...it is kinda a big deal, and even a suit like Vickers would see the logic in that. Even David *should* have been inclined to examine Holloway's remains to see the extent of his tampering.
Even Shaw's C-section. A chick stumbles into your room all bloodied and stapled together and you don't even bother to ask what happened? Yes, David knew of the genetic mutation in her belly she wished to have removed (though, Shaw never knew it was alien, but rather "not a normal fetus" and then she was hell bent to have it removed...)
The biggest thing, as well, is that there is no character motivation - or at least very poor motivation. From the C-Section, to David's curiosity, and even Janek's "being there for more than just driving a ship." They simply did not establish characters well enough. Heck, even Holloway wasn't established properly. They never explained his over zealous desires for exploring/meeting the Engineers.
Another issue is the Weyland reveal...it was such an "ehn" moment because they did not establish the character of Weyland well enough to make that reveal more than just a "oh a late comer to the party."
In my opinion this movie should have looked more into the science and exploration of what the mission truly was about. If more scenes were added where they investigated what happened to Fifield and Holloway, it would have given the team more time to establish character motives, as well as a better understanding of what happened to their characters (for the non fans); but it would also have given the fate of Fifield and Holloway more substance to the overall film.
I think they sat down and had a list of "cool" scenes they wanted to see and built a script (albeit a weak one) around those scenes.
Prometheus is a slick looking action sci-fi adventure, but fails whole heartedly in the story and character department that even casual viewers find disappointing.
