With obvious writing issues from the start with a change in writers during production we are left with a story that wants to say something but instead fights it self at every turn to do so. Any sense of subtlety is lost as with every hint of subtext we are spoon fed a conclusion which tastes bitter with the condescension of the writer. Around 2 minutes of the film are actually devoted to tackling the big questions it poses before being washed over with what is basically a pointless mess of a story.
Most of the flaws of the movie are masked by stunning visuals and I found the soundtrack to be compelling though a little misguided at times.
In the end we are left as dissatisfied in the lack of any real story as the characters themselves *Especially the dead ones*, whilst any characters that were given character development only lead us to being rejoicing in their demise negating any sense of tension or terror.
As for the monsters themselves, any sense of Giger's original vision is stripped away of its "Alien" Mystic leaving creatures that you would only be willing to pay to see at your local Aquarium
