So this is what the Engineers do. They spend all their time experimenting and if they find a combination goo that they like, they create planet full of life. There are no ends to planets or goo mutations either. Complimenting that would be creating spaceships to visit these places and longer life spans to enjoy them. This is the behavior of a God like people. On mistakes, which could be a bad goo mutation, they have a goo formual that is self-destructive.

I don't know about a self destruck mode for goo but the idea that a strain odf goo needs a booster shot so to speak sort of makes sense. On follow up visits the Engineers could see how this seed crop is going and give it a boost, a fertilizer perhaps if there are good results. The crops that are not promising get ithe infamous 'goo' as we suspect is happenning with the engineers and Earth. But why all this activity on the Engineer's behalf? They must be working for someone/entity we have not seen. I doubt they are Gods in the all powerful sense.
