NOT MILITARY OR SCIENTIFIC MISSION. KEEP THIS IN MIND

There is no training, no direction, no precedures to follow. Anything goes and that is the mood set from the top down. The old mans biggest order of the day? TRY HARDER...that's why Shaw can do what she wants at the end..anything goes

There was no clearly established chain of command, there had been no training, they didn't know each other, and didn't even know where they were going when they entered cryosleep, all because of Weyland's apparent obsession with secrecy.

artyoh...whatever the reason, its like visiting with some rich spoiled kid at his house. You can do whatever you want..no one cares...Free hand andything goes. Now, see the move....it makes more sense

I agree. IMHO, this was Weyland's personal mission to save his own ass. The man is a narcissist, has more money than he could spend in ten lifetimes and knows that his time is at hand. He will risk anyone or anything to gain an advantage on death through possible advanced alien techniques.

RSAND...that is what money is for...to buy whateve is for sale...When you gto trillions to play with, you buy some far out stuff. Coincendently, he does stumble on some value here...but has absolutely no idea on how to proceed, handle it, communicate with it etc...His best shot..TRY HARDER and the next one....David Speak to them...

Hmmm I agree slightly but for Holloway to just take his helmet off in the atmosphere of the alien building he must of suddenly gone from a clever person to a feking retard in a split second - even a 5 year old kid wouldn't do such a thing :O ! If you imagine how scarey it is traveling through space to the edges of civilization with no real protection or back up and being inside an alien structure you know nothing about you seriously would be tip toeing around like there might be traps or stuff even if you were stupid or an adrenalin junkie!

Crabfart...supports my theory of not being a trained professional and being able to do whatever you want to do. The whole crew lacks bonding or common purpose. Vickers says, reprot to me. the old man is telling David what to do. Shaw is in La la land..the gelogist is getting high and lost...the captain is palying an acordion and getting drunk...Whoa...Anything goes and they all end up dead...except for you know who

Good theory Richie. Viewed this way the actions of the crew become somewhat clearer, although I have to agree with Crabfart (what an excellent username by the way!) when it comes to Holloway taking his lid off.
To me that came over as a reckless act born of an inflated ego, maybe to illustrate (some) people's arrogance and lack of humility in the face of the unknown, much like Milburn and the Hammerpede was IMHO.
Interesting thread chaps.
S&B.

Shake & Bake...thank you....My freind, where is no direction, anything goes. Taking off a helmet in a science or military arena...is just not allowed. You break quarantine aand risk exposure in on instance and in the other, you need permission. But if you and your girlfriend are in charge of an expedidtion..you can do what you want...and he did...riduclous granted...but allowed

Indeed. That's why the destination is stated as "not disclosed." It's a trillion dollar 'meet my maker' spend. It's not even clear if it's all his money or company money,, but with a few days to live, how accountable does he have to be?

@richie taking his helmet off I felt just wasnt something anyone would do in any frame of mind - stupid , ego inflated etc. etc. so it just feels like an annoying damon / ridley type 'in your face people' type thing (trying to engage people) and really feks up the film for me I might of forgave it if the others all kept theres on (and then holloway dies from it soon after - yay!) seriously bacteria viruses microbes or something we have never seen before WTF!

H.H...good point. I couldnt help think of people who buy paitings and spend millions for it. they want to remain anonymous less someone think they are nuts...As far as accounting for funds...excellent point
Crabfart...that is right...sure, you can breath, but breath what? What if the goo was able to be breathed instead of swallowed? Heck, just getting it on you infected you...The whole mom and pop mission was in jeorpardy right there and then...Heres a thought: David saying..oh yes, it is perfectly safe to the old man....
