@ Drekinus
Nice one, Oh well that's just blown a few of my theories out the water. Back to the drawng board.

If I were you I'd wait for the director's cut before speculating. There's an "elder engineer" meant to appear in the full opening scene.

Drekinus has a good point. Before you even ponder that they were engineers at all, the fact that there was a "elder" engineer leads to the hypothesis that they balded headed pasty white dudes with Rambo abs in the movie were not engineers of anything, they were probably just clones created by an older civilization to be soldiers or messengers. The real "engineers" would be whoever created the Mr. Cleans without a tan.

some say they are clones and they aren t the engineers but they were created by them, there is a nice post in the discussion forum the sumerian theory i think is called and posted by mertber

Hi,
According to this article they are 'undeniably ancient... millions of years'

it's a good possibility they're clone descendants of the original engineer in the beginning of the movie...also too, no one said anything about the ship in the beginning..it's a more traditional UFO shape whereas the ones aon the base are the familiar horseshoe shaped ones...which leads me to speculate there are malevolent and benevolent engineers...just a theory

You left out some words that COMPLETELY change the meaning of that sentence.
"They appear to be undeniably ancient"
It amuses me that some of the things that this film is trying to address are going on right here on this page. The irony is amazing. I think you're going to laugh out loud at the sequel if you remember that you wrote that post.
