Shaw begins experiencing severe cramps between Weyland's room and the 'Engineer's' lifepod. I realize that she just experienced surgery to remove the squid, and was subsequently stapled shut - but - the scene preceding the 'Engineer' encounter draws the audience's attention away from Shaw. Why then such emphasized, violent abdominal pains?
My first reaction was - Shaw is still pregnant. But the surgery pod extracted the foreign body. For those who recall the queen xenomorph's reaction to Ripley's genetic imprint in 'Resurrection' - a new queen capable of two types of pregnancy resulted. She was able to lay eggs, and give birth similar to a human (mammal).
Shaw obviously didn't react to the black viral fluid as Holloway did - but she is obviously a major catalyst in the xenomorph's evolution - and they do adapt to different hosts and their environments. The xenomorphs are foremost - survivors. Their viral origins may recognize an opportunity in an otherwise hostile environment with limited host availability. The xenomorphs do exhibit a hive mind capacity.
So ... when the 'Engineer' was initially paying attention to Shaw's distress - could he have sensed the corruption ... but then...did David antagonize the 'Engineer' in a deliberately non-subtitled dialect.
Shaw may be carrying a second xenomorph - possibly a new queen - maybe David knew from the initial scan, and provoked the 'Engineer' to 'Kill his Parent' as David suggested - and now David's intention's manifest.
Shaw is impregnated - and alone. David convinced her to pilot another ship. What began as an experiment on Holloway has escalated into possible apocalyptic consequences.

There is somesort of opne door to a second pregnancy.
Correct me if I'm wrong... but I recall seeing an egg laying with an umbilical cord near the Deacon after he burst out the engenierr.... it bugs me but I swear I saw something like it...

MemberOvomorphJun-13-2012 8:03 PMYou're reading too much into it... She was just in extreme pain from having her abdomen cut open and then running around...
Lindelof said on an interview that him and Ridley Scott did NOT talk about Alien:Ressurection in the process of creating Prometheus, so I highly doubt they would get the idea of a secondary pregnancy cycle for Shaw based on that... it would confuse the hell out of normal audiences :)

MemberOvomorphJun-13-2012 8:27 PMMaybe ... but based on various other elements of the film - Ridley is creating on a larger scale than to appease the average film viewer. The theories and speculations on this site are as thought provoking as the film details that inspire them.
My opinion is that this is a film trilogy for the 'Alien' fans that don't prefer the AVP approach of - more action - more creatures - more violence and gore.
So maybe mine and other member speculations are reading into subtle details - but I feel that this film is an invitation to question and theorize.
I do hope that Ridley continues to delve further into the Ancient Astronaut theories to create a depth to the 'Engineers' origins and the relationship between suggested mythologies and religious overtones.
Of course ... that's just my opinion.

MemberOvomorphJun-14-2012 3:02 AMPretty sure the whole collapsing thing is more of a "oh, shit! my abdominal wall has been severed and I have been running around like an idiot and the drugs are not enough to compensate for this" thing than a "Oh, shit! I am still pregnant" thing.
But with the "lost boy" calling the shots, who knows what kind of zany stuff could be happening?
